The school issued Chromebooks have been configured to allow @alice-smith.edu.my accounts to login to the device. Parents and family members should not use the device. The intended purpose of the 1-to-1 Chromebook program is to support a Year 5 & Year 6 student's education.
Chromebook device usage is not considered to be private and actions used may be reported to a school safeguarding team member.
Yes, the intended purpose for a 1-to-1 program is for the device to be used at school and home as a supportive educational resource. The Chromebook must be brought to school every day fully charged. The device should be taken home end of the school day.
Yes, the Chromebook given in Year 5 is expected to be with a student until the Primary program is completed or the student withdraws from school. This will allow for students to access educational content while at home during holidays, term breaks, or school closures.
At the end of the Primary program or school withdrawal, the Chromebook and all school provided accessories will need to be returned to The Alice Smith School.
Some specific applications and extensions will automatically be deployed to the Chromebook device based on teacher requests. Furthermore, there will be a published list of applications and extensions that are approved for optional installations by students.
All applications and extensions that will be reviewed by The Technology Department and/or PLT to ensure proper privacy and safeguarding protocols have been followed. Applications and extensions are evaluated based on educational impact and how the application can positively influence student learning.
Students and parents are unable to have additional apps or extensions installed, modified, or removed beyond the school approved configuration.
The exact date students who are entering year 5 or new students to year 6 will receive their Chromebook will be announced at the start of the academic school year. Students who have been promoted to year 6 will already have a Chromebook from the previous academic year.
Parents should not attempt any independent or self-repairs of the Chromebook or accessories. There may be some situations where a device is damaged and the existing warranty will cover such damages. Warranty claims can only be determined by the school submitting the device to the original distributor that all devices and accessories were purchased from. Unauthorized modification will void such warranties and may result in the parent being billed for a replacement of a new device.
The Alice Smith School will be unable to accept any devices or accessories purchased by the parent. All devices must be purchased by The Alice Smith School due to warranty coverage claim and a Google EDU license that is purchased for the device.
Please immediately inform the Alice Smith School if a device is lost or stolen. The Technology Department will immediately provide a Year 5 student with a replacement device and parents will receive a billing statement at a later date for the cost of replacement.
All Year 5 & Year 6 parents will be able to access a new website called Securly that will allow for parents to be able to block website categories of their choosing. This will allow for each family to make decisions based on what they feel is appropriate for a student at home. Parents will be able to receive email alerts for inappropriate or blocked web content and activity that takes place. Screen time use will need to be monitored by parents directly and it is recommended that each family sets rules over how much time the device should be used while at home.
The new parent safeguarding website and settings will only apply to Chromebook usage while off the school Wi-Fi network. The Alice Smith School automatically provides filtering to inappropriate web content based on age restrictions.
Parents will automatically be enrolled into this system and will use their @asis.edu.my parent accounts to login and manage their children's settings.
