Scholarship America

Student Volunteer Award

We are delighted to announce the 2019 Scholarship America Student Volunteer Award!

With Scholarship America's continuing focus on supporting student success, and as a way to allow more students the opportunity to apply for these scholarships, we have decided to open the program to all Dollars for Scholars high school seniors. This will allow us to recognize the most outstanding student volunteers across the country.

The Student Volunteer Award program will open on Monday, March 18, 2019. We ask that you encourage students in your community to add their current GPA and volunteer activities from the last four years to their Dollars for Scholars student profiles by March 18. From there, Scholarship America staff will begin the process of identifying eligible students and inviting them to apply for the award.

To be invited to apply, students must:

  • Be a high school senior
  • Match to a Dollars for Scholars affiliate
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Have completed a minimum of 1000 total hours of volunteering in the last four years, and have them entered in the Activities section of their student profile

Scholarship America will award one four-year renewable National Award totaling $4,000, as well as up to fifteen one-time $1,000 awards. The Student Volunteer Award program will close on April 15, 2019.

If you have questions about the Scholarship America Student Volunteer Award program, please contact your Engagement Director. Affiliates with winning students will be notified the week of May 20, 2019.

Thank you!

Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship

Scholarship America and Wells Fargo are pleased to announce the launch of the 2019 Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship and Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant programs, designed to help veterans complete the postsecondary education or training they need to return to -- and succeed in -- civilian life and work. Since 2016, Wells Fargo and Scholarship America have awarded 72 scholarships and 135 emergency grants. We need your help to spread the word about this year's programs.

The Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program provides scholarships up to $7,000 per year, to fill gaps for veterans and the spouses of disabled veterans after military benefits and other grants and scholarships have been utilized. To help recipients focus on completing their degree, these scholarships are renewable, and award amounts will grow by $1,000 each year. The deadline to apply is February 28.

Wells Fargo’s emergency grant program helps veterans already enrolled in postsecondary education meet their household expenses when faced with unexpected financial setbacks. Ranging up to $1,000, these immediate, one-time grants are designed to keep recipients in school without creating undue financial hardship.

As a Dollars for Scholars volunteer, you’re in a unique position to reach out to veterans, students and supporters in your community. Both programs are accessible viascholarshipamerica.org/wellsfargoveterans, and will be linked in the “Student Opportunities” section of your website. Please take a moment to share the link with veterans, military families and veterans’ organizations in your hometown, so we can ensure that they get the help they need.
