AI literacy means understanding how artificial intelligence works, how to use it responsibly, and how it impacts our daily lives. For students, this includes learning how to think critically about AI-generated content, use AI tools ethically, and understand both the benefits and limitations of these technologies.

As technology rapidly advances, we want to equip our students with skills needed to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. We prioritize digital citizenship to teach students how to use technology in ethical and respectful ways. Building on this foundation, we provide AI literacy instruction based on the Common Sense Media curriculum and News Literacy Project, tailored to meet the developmental needs of students in grades 3 through 12.

In addition to general digital citizenship lessons that students receive, we have added additional lessons specific to AI and Deepfakes that are outlined below.

Learning about AI is just the first step. Students have opportunities to interact with AI tools in a safe, structured, and monitored environment that encourages creativity, communication, and responsible use in age-appropriate ways.

Below are district-approved AI tools for students in grades 3 through 12 that maybe used for learning and exploration under teacher guidance.

Canva AI Image Generator

Canva includes built-in AI features that support student work by generating images from text, creating AI voiceovers for presentations, and using AI in spreadsheets to organize data or suggest formulas.Ā

Magic Student (Magic School)Ā 

MagicSchool is an education-friendly version of ChatGPT that supports deeper student thinking and learning. Rather than simply providing answers, it guides students through the learning process with thoughtful support and questions. Teachers can monitor student activity and enable helpful tools like Debate Partner, Tutor Me, Writing Feedback, and more.Ā
