5th/6th Grade Art

Lincoln Center Art News

Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year!

This is going to be a blockbuster year! We are starting the year in 6th grade with a dive into clay hand-building techniques. Fifth grade will begin the year with a self-portrait in the style of Pablo Picasso. Both classes will experience art-making (studio), art history, and art criticism within the four realms of our National Core Standards for Visual Art: Create, Connect, Respond, and Produce. Students are expected to adhere to the behavior matrix featured below. Please read over and discuss the importance of good behavior in the art room with your child.   In March, our school will host our annual Fine Arts Night, where students and their families can come partake in a variety of visual and performance art forms. In May, the hard work of our student artists will be featured at our Spring Art Show at the Albia Chamber of Commerce.  Periodically, art room happenings will be featured on our Albia Community School District webpage and the Albia Community School District Facebook page. This school year promises to be the best EVER!

Meet the teacher

My name is Kim Riney and this is my 25th year of teaching art, my 12th year at Lincoln Center.  I believe that every child can benefit from a quality art program, socially and cognitively. Our curriculum is standards-based, using the National Core Visual Arts Standards. Students are exposed to a variety of art media in both the 2-D and 3-D realms.  I have high expectations for my students, encouraging them to take risks and to be in charge of their own learning.

I welcome any questions you have about our art program.  I can be reached at 641-932-2161, ext. 1324, or at kim.riney@albia.k12.ia.us.  I am also present at parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child's progress.

Fine Arts Night 2024

In March, 2024, Lincoln Center held its Fine Arts Night for K-6 students and their families. This year's event will take place on March 27, 2025. We will feature many different arts experiences throughout the school in visual arts, music, and performance arts. More information is coming soon!
