The Alberta Hate Crimes Committee is looking for new board members

January 21, 2021

The Alberta Hate Crimes Committee (AHCC) is seeking several new Board Directors to act as ‘members at large’ on our Board.

The AHCC was established in 2001 as a response to increased instances of hate. Since then, AHCC volunteers have worked to develop and deliver workshops, stakeholder gatherings and community supports to victims of hate across the province.

As a collaboration of community, law enforcement, justice and human rights institutions, the AHCC’s mission is to bring comprehensive insight to issues of incidents and crime motivated by hate in Alberta. Our vision is to foster an environment where all Albertans live in an inclusive, safe, caring and respectful hate-free community.

Because the majority of hate crimes are perpetrated against people who identify as Indigenous, Black, racialized, and/or LGBTG2S+, it is important that our Board includes representation of people whose communities are directly affected by hate. As such, we encourage applicants who identify as Indigenous, Black, racialized and/or LGBTQ2S+ to apply.
