Albany R-III Schools
Dr. Brian Pekarek
Dear Albany School District (Students, Staff, and Community),
My name is Dr. Brian Pekarek, and I am the new Superintendent for the Albany School District. My family and I have lived in Albany for the past two weeks, and we have been excited to get the chance to know the students, staff, and community members that make up the Albany community. The community has been wonderful in their effort to get to know us and make this new area feel like “home” for us. Thank you!
July Albany School District Report: In an effort to reach more of the community, I wanted to write a short article in which I might introduce myself to the Albany community during the month of July. (Each month, I hope to give an “Albany School District Report to the Community” over a different topic that is being highlighted within the Albany school district. This will be posted in the newspapers, emailed, on our website, and on our facebook page.) Since I am new to the Albany community, I will use the “July Albany School District Report” to introduce myself and my family to the Albany community.
My Family: My wife (Robyn) and I have three kids that will be in the Albany School District in the fall: Seth (5th Grade), Thad (3rd Grade), and Bobbi (1st Grade). Therefore, you may have seen us around the community during the last two weeks of June and early July. We have moved to Albany from Winfield, Kansas. (Although it is hard for my kids to be the “new kids”, we want to thank everyone who has helped my family adjust to Albany by getting my kids involved in summer sports, talking to us in the community and at church, inviting us to programs, and making us feel welcome! Thank you!
My Background: I started out as a Social Studies Teacher in Kansas (4 years), became a school counselor (4 years), then worked as a principal (3 years), a college professor (3 years), and a school district superintendent (6 years) in Kansas. (Since my last name is “Pekarek”, students called me “Dr. P.”)
My Education: I received my undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State University (KS), my Masters Degree from Kansas State University, my superintendent licensure from Emporia State University (KS), and my Doctorate Degree from Kansas State University. My Doctorate Dissertation was focused on maximizing and increasing educational grant writing in rural school districts.
Focus for Albany School District: Building Relationships I will continue to work on developing relationships with the staff, students, board members, and community members in our area during the summer and school year. I will continue to meet with staff and community members regarding “the strengths” of the districts, as well as the possible “improvements” that might be made for in the district. In this way, we can focus on student development, staff support, and community partnerships in the Albany community for many years to come.
Thank you: Again, my family and I want to thank the community of Albany for your “Welcoming Spirit” this summer. We are excited to be in Albany. I am also excited to work with the students, staff, and community members so as to make a difference in the lives of the students that we serve. Please contact me at if you have any questions or concerns at 660-726-3911 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
