During the regular academic school year the UAF Upward Bound Project is active in 10 high schools located across Alaska. These Target Schools conduct weekly meetings with students to encourage and promote good study habits and provide additional counseling for students as needed. Target School programs are guided by a local coordinator, often a teacher or counselor, who assumes an additional duty to lead students through their Upward Bound activities.
The program provides a number of useful benefits to the students enrolled. There is a focus on tutoring, college exploration activities, study skills assistance, cultural & heritage activities, and community service events. Each student can also receive up to 40$ per month as a stipend for participation, academic improvement, and commitment.
