Ève Ryan

My name is Ève Ryan. My preferred pronouns are: she/her/hers.

I am an assistant professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). The UAF Troth Yeddha' campus is located on the traditional lands of the Dena people of the lower Tanana River. For my part, I live on the traditional homeland of the Eklutna Dena'ina in Anchorage. I mostly teach online and periodically come to Fairbanks.

My academic interests revolve broadly around language development, language teaching, language assessment, and language learning, with a particular focus on students from linguistically diverse backgrounds. I have used both quantitative and qualitative methods in my research.

I completed my Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis on Human Development & Psychology at the University of California Los Angeles in 2019. I subsequently moved to Alaska, where I have been teaching classes for several programs at UAF, including: Linguistics, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Education, and Foreign Languages.

I spend most of my free time with my family, including my spouse and three children. Together, we love to travel, most often to Réunion Island, where I was born and raised. I also enjoy exercising (especially hiking and doing ballet), cooking, and reading fiction.
