2019 Winter Outreach

2019 Winter Outreach February 15 - 18, 2019

Family Day Long Weekend

This is an invitation to all Adventurers, Challengers, Leaders, Alumni and Parents to join the Outreach Committee for a fun and challenging weekend participating in the 2019 Winter Outreach. This year we have put together a great program in the Canmore area. We will make the beautiful Alpine Club of Canada Clubhouse our base for this adventure – a luxury hostel only 4.5 km from downtown Canmore, overlooking the Bow Valley - far enough away to be completely quiet and close enough to take advantage of all the amenities of town.

The program of activities will include caving at the beautiful ING mine and cave (also known as the Moose Mountain Ice Cave at Bragg Creek, or the Crystal Caves). This portion of the adventure will be lead by our team starting with a 7 km hike to the entrance of the cave, then hike up to the opening followed by exploration of this unique area. Not everyone gets to explore a cave in the winter!

We will also adventure by cross-country skis on the trail from Canmore to Banff. Since this will probably result in tired muscles, we decided it would be good to take advantage of the warm soothing waters of the Cave and Basin Hot Springs to relax after our journey. What a wonderful day!

The weekend will also include a presentation by the dedicated members of the Banff National Park Search and Rescue who will provide an informative program on some of their unique equipment, a tour of their facilities and entertaining talks on some of their more memorable rescues. This will be a unique experience for all of us.

Our evenings will be filled with creating our shirts after a program on the anatomy of a tree! There will be lots of time for playing games, sharing stories and enjoying the company of other members of the JFW family. Don’t forget you will also be assisting with some of the cooking and clean-up activities. This is the only Outreach that we have planned that all the participants will be doing the activities together as a group!

Since this program is not far off the beaten path, it is an excellent introduction to what some of our more backcountry Outreach programs are like. There is room for only 26 participants in this outreach program, so please register as soon as possible (keep checking the AJFWA website as you can register as soon as the site is up and running).

The Outreach Committee would love to have you join us! For more information please contact Terry Garrett at terry.garrett@ajfwa.ca or phone 780-963-7183 or Roger Madaire at roger.madaire@ajfwa.ca or phone 403-869-1941.

COST: Only $190.00 per participant! This would also make a wonderful Christmas gift – the gift of adventure! Register on-line without delay! This adventure could be used for your Duke of Edinburgh Awards program. Participant Information packages will be provided after registration is complete.

Payment Options: $190.00.00 Online via Paypal (credit card) *at time of registration only; club cheque or e-transfer to Treasurer@ajfwa.ca (password "AJFWA2018").
