The AJFWA is awarded a Casino approximately every 18-24 months, alternating between Calgary and Edmonton. Adult AJFWA members volunteer to work at the event and we make every effort to distribute the shifts fairly among clubs to allow as much representation as possible. In return, the AJFWA allocates a portion of the casino revenue to chartered Clubs and Regions.
AJFWA Casino #10 was held February 14 and 15, 2019, at the Palace Casino in West Edmonton Mall! Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who have stepped up to make our this Casino possible, very much appreciated!!
The AJFWA Casino #10 Allocations will be completed using membership numbers provided by the AJFWA Membership Director. Only Clubs and Regions in Good Standing with their charters and Wardens from Families in Good Standing as at February 16, 2019 will be eligible to receive casino funding as per our policies.
In order to have access to their casino funds, Clubs and Regions must be fully chartered and in Good Standing with AJFWA as at the date of the casino being held. Casino Credits in specific dollar base amounts are then allocated for:
- the Club or Region being in Good Standing
- each Warden in Good Standing
- and per volunteer who worked a shift at the casino for that particular Club or Region.
These amounts may vary for each casino held, as funds must be re-allocated each casino cycle to ensure the funds cover all eligible Regions, Clubs and their Members, while leaving a portion of the funds allocated to AJFWA for its operational requirements. Our cycle is currently 24 months.
Please see the information contained below in Casino #9 for an explanation of the "new" method of disbursement of funds to Clubs and Regions.
AJFWA Casino #9 was held on March 18 - 19, 2017! Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who made the event a success, very much appreciated!!
The AJFWA Casino #9 Allocation has now been completed using numbers provided by the AJFWA Membership Director. Only Clubs and Regions in Good Standing with their charters and Wardens from Families in Good Standing as at March 21 2017 were eligible to receive casino funding as per our policies.
With the new method of disbursement of funds to Clubs and Regions given clearance by AGLC and approved by the AJFWA Board at the April 2017 meeting, groups will receive their allocations in a cheque made to their specific Club or Region. There are a few steps to complete this process in order to be compliant with AGLC rules; however, in the long run, the process will be much more efficient and easier to manage.
**Once it has been established that a Club or Region is in Good Standing, that group will be sent their allocation amount, along with a copy of the AJFWA List of Approved Use of Funds provided by AGLC, and a Budget Form that the club must complete and return, showing how they plan to spend funds in accordance with AGLC rules. The Budget will be submitted to the AJFWA Treasurer via email at Treasurer@ajfwa.ca, who will review and, if approved, will send the Club or Region’s Executive an AGLC Recipients' Agreement to sign and return.
Once those steps are completed, AJFWA will then send a Casino cheque directly out to the Club or Region and they will be required to ensure that they spend the money before the requisite deadline (to be announced) on uses approved for AJFWA by AGLC.
PLEASE NOTE: Allocations will NOT be publicly posted on our website and you will not be notified unless your Club or Region qualifies. Please feel free to check in with your Treasurer at Treasurer@ajfwa.ca if you have questions or need assistance with your documents once you have received them.
Notes on spending your Club’s Casino credits: The easiest way to budget and use your Club’s Casino credits is to spend the funds on your Club’s annual rent, or for other ALGC approved uses such as: educational supplies, equipment rental, or equipment purchase & repair. Please refer to the updated document AJFWA Approved Uses of Casino Funds (Oct 2017).
Please also remember that purchases of assets and equipment using casino funds will remain the property of AJFWA; and these items must be recorded as such on your Club Inventory and submitted annually with your charter. If a Club or Region should fold or the equipment purchased with casino funds is sold, either the proceeds from the sale or the assets themselves must be returned to AJFWA.
