A Kid Goes Flying Off A Blob At A Lake

By: Alexandra Jiampietro

At Camp Champions, The Outdoor School, there were several different schools, including Austin International School students, going swimming in LBJ Lake located in Marble Falls. All the kids put on their life jackets and got ready to get in the water, the lifeguards explained to them some safety regulations about the lake, for example do not horseplay in the water, do not push people while on the docks, etc. As all of the middle schoolers stood on the edge of the docks, they waited in the blistering heat to get into the water. Finally, the lifeguard blew their whistles. The kids started jumping into the water left and right and a line formed to the main attraction, the blob. The blob is an enormous, rainbow-colored, inflated airbag. Campers jump onto it from a 6-foot wooden platform, then if they were lucky enough to land on it, they would crawl to the other end of the blob and wait for another kid almost the same size as they are to jump on the other side. Next, the kid on the edge of the blob would go flying into the air and then land into the lake. Everybody is amused.

At first, a numerous amount of kids tried to land on the blob but it was too inflated, which made it almost impossible to land on. All the kids would slip off the airbag and into the water. Thus, the lifeguards deflated it a little and immediately after a camper landed on the blob. Eventually, more kids started to land on the blob and it was going smoothly.

The kids only had an hour in the water from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Therefore they were trying to have as many turns possible.

Around 5:45 pm, a kid named Quinn, around 4' 9" tall, from Austin International School jumped and crawled to the end of the blob. Then, a 6 foot tall kid from a different school stepped up and sprang into the air. According to people around, there was probably about a 40 to 50 pound weight difference between the two boys. As the taller kid collided into the blob, Quinn went flying 7 feet into the air. His legs and arms were flailing all around and then he plummeted into the water headfirst. Everyone around started screaming and laughing from this odd scene. When Quinn surfaced, he was very shocked and his head hurt a little. Quinn said, ̈I was very scared and shocked when I saw this kid who was like 40 pounds heavier than me, but it was a lot of fun.¨ One of the lifeguards, shocked, announced, “That was the highest I’ve ever seen someone go!”

Man Forgives the Former Cop Who Killed His Brother

By: Joaquin Forero

On September 23, a former Dallas cop shot a black man in his apartment while eating ice cream. Amber Guyger mistook 26 year old, Botham for a burglar. One night after a 13 and a half hour shift, she mistakenly parked on the wrong level of her apartment complex. Later, she allegedly smelled drugs coming from the apartment that she thought was hers. The apartment was also wide open and very messy. She thought someone was robbing her apartment or doing something illegal. These three things then made her go “on autopilot” when she barged in the apartment and shot Botham Jean, as he was sitting down on his chair watching television. She shot him once, and that shot was fatal. She was charged with murder and sentenced 10 years in prison by judge Tammy Kemp, she will be eligible for parole in the next 5. What makes this case so special was that after the case, Botham’s brother went on to talk about how he felt about the situation. “I don’t want you to go to jail. I want the best for you... I know thats whats Botham would want too,”

These are the words of Brandt Jean, brother of Botham Jean, victim of this case. After she was sentenced, he had a speech about how he wishes the best for her and how that would be what Botham would want to. Brandt even said that he does not want her to go to jail, he even says:” I don’t want you to rot and die just like my (other) brother said”. He also wants her to give her life to the Christian religion, as stated in this quote: “And the best would be, to give your life to Christ, I’m not going to say anything else. And I think that was what Botham would want you to do.” This heartwarming, and touching speech later made people cry at the jurisdiction. At the end of his speech he asked the judge if it was possible to give Guyger a hug. The judge agrees. And this closes the case, we could learn a lot about forgiveness in of this moment.

China’s Sensitivity to Joke gets Winnie the Pooh Banned.

by: Simon Forero

If someone in your country tells you, that you resemble Pooh Bear, what would you do? In some countries, such comparisons might be thought of as harmless and some might even think that having Winnie as your "mascot" could even be quite sweet… not in China.

China’s leader, Xi Jinping recently has been getting lots of backlash for banning Winnie the Pooh in China. Xi Jinping has been compared to Winnie the Pooh since 2013 when people on the internet noticed that a picture of him walking with Barack Obama resembled Pooh bear and Tigger. It came out without a caption, but thousands got the joke. Those posts were promptly deleted at the time, of course. It was one of the most popular deleted posts, shared more than 65,000 times before it was taken down, according to Weiboscope. Due to this situation, the Chinese government is trying to ban Pooh Bear, not only in their country, but in the U.S too.

The Chinese government established laws to censor anything that was made in China. According to Wikipedia,

Censorship in the People's Republic of China (PRC) is implemented or mandated by the PRC's ruling party, the Communist Party of China (CPC). The government censors content for mainly political reasons, but also to maintain its control over the populace. The Chinese government asserts that it has the legal right to control the Internet's content within their territory.

This means that China can control anything that was posted in their territory on the internet. This means that if the military sees something that they do not like, they may take it down, resulting in infringing the right of free speech for their citizens. According to BBC news, the Chinese government claims that its citizens have “unfettered access” to the internet. This means that frankly, they lied in their claims about their internet privileges. They also lied how they promised to keep control over just its populace by trying to censor things outside of the CPC.
