Last spring, after a 49 year career, 28 as the Abington Heights Boys Basketball Team head coach, Ken Bianchi announced his retirement, leaving big shoes to fill.
This school year, the boys basketball team is being taken over by former Abington Heights player J.C. Show. Coach Show was a star player at Abington Heights before graduating in 2014 and continuing his academic/athletic career at both Bucknell and Binghamton.
“I would only want to coach here, as far as being a high school coach goes,” said Coach Show. “It was really important to me to be able to give back to my school and my community and be the coach here at Abington Heights.”
The players seem to have already grown to respect and appreciate Coach Show as their new coach.
“We’re all super excited for Coach Show to be our coach this season,” said senior co-captain Robby Lucas. “It means a little extra to us knowing that he was in our shoes a couple years ago.”
Junior co-captain Jordan Shaffer agreed when he said, “[Coach Show] has learned from a lot of great coaches and has a lot of great experiences that he can share with us.”
The team is looking forward to the season, with a new coach and changes to the roster, which lost several key senior players last year.
