For the next AHHS Praiseworthy Pupil, we have senior Sarah Siddiqui! With a passion for healthcare and public health, Sarah aims to make a difference in today’s world through a dual-sided perspective of science, via biomedicine, and law, via health policy. And she’s already made strides during her high school career for this dream, prominently through her involvement in our Period Club by acting as its president. The AHHS Period Club officers were the lead organizers of 2019’s National Period Day rally in Philadelphia, with the goal of bringing awareness to health policy and stigma about menstrual issues. Sarah and other members even spoke with state senators, representatives and other legislators, attending the State Capitol in Harrisburg to lobby for House Bill 1708 and other similar menstrual bills.
She is the Class of 2021’s vice president as well, a position which she is stated is very fulfilling as “it provides a chance to engage with the school and community, and make everyone feel welcome.” Sarah is also currently the president of our Forensics (Speech and Debate) team, which for her is an amazing means to meet and learn about a variety of people and perspectives. For three years in a row, she and the team has made it to nationals. Additionally, she was chosen to attend the prestigious Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences in the summer. Held at Carnegie Mellon University, she focused on college-level science courses and publishing a group research project on developments in the field of genetics and DNA.
To put the icing on the cake, Sarah also recently found out she was one of the recipients for this year’s Coca-Cola scholarship! With countless more passions and extracurriculars, such as Science Olympiad and ESL volunteering for refugees, Sarah will definitely forge ahead in her goal of improving society and public health as she moves beyond high school.
