Every November, we get an extra Monday off of school. Veteran’s Day is on November 11th, a holiday that commemorates the end of World War I and when America honors veterans who served and sacrificed for the country.
At Abington Heights High School, this is more than just an extra day off. We have more than just an extra day off. We have veterans working right here in the building. Nurse Stone and Mr. Romanski had first hand experience serving for the country.
“It's a very rewarding experience and it was actually valuable for work experience for the rest of your life,” said Nurse Stone, who served in the U.S. Air Force for ten years.
Additionally, social studies teacher Mr. Romanski served in the United States Air Force for four years and was an avionics technician, working on F15 fighters and B1 bombers, working on two different planes in dangerous circumstances.
He adds, “For those people who sacrificed everything and put their lives on the line for us, I think it's really important to remember them.”
