On Thursday October 13th, the Abington Girls Volleyball team had their final home game of the season, also known as “senior night” to honor the girls who are graduating this year with a ceremony before the game. Each of the seven girls were walked down an aisle of their teammates, accompanied by family members, and given gifts to commemorate the hard work and dedication they put towards the team. In a beautiful ceremony, we hope the girls felt honored and will remember this moment for years to come.
Following the ceremony, the girls began warming up for a very exciting game ahead of them! The team got pumped up to “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada, with the seniors in particular dancing up a storm on the court. Comet the bear was able to hype up the team while doing their normal pre-game rituals and also the crowd as the game was about to begin.
The game had an exciting start with Abington taking the first point of the first set. The early lead definitely helped us have an advantage for the set as a whole, allowing us to keep a natural rhythm. Abington and Dunmore seemed neck to neck throughout the first set, tying at 3 to 3, 5 to 5, 10 to 10, and 13 to 13. Abington was finally able to get the upper hand and raised us up to 22-17. A faulted serve from Dunmore ends the set with Abington having a score of 25 and Dunmore falling short with 21.
The second set began with another fault from Dunmore, allowing Abington to take their second early lead of the game. In the middle of the set, Abington received a questionable point causing the score to be 8 to 5; after the play was carefully reviewed, the point was revoked changing the score to 7-6. Following the mixup, Dunmore took a hard lead with 20 points to Abington’s 11. Dunmore took the set with 25 points while Abington trailed behind with 14.

Each senior was honored with a display in the gym.
Dunmore took the first point of the third set, but we tied 1-1 as Dunmore fell victim to another serving fault. Abington seemed to have a continuous lead throughout the set, with scores of 7-5, 14-9, and 21-15. Abington completes the third set with a score of 25 to 20 as Dunmore fails to get the ball over the net.
With a path towards redemption, Dunmore has an early lead of 2 to 0. Not too far after, the score didn’t change much as Dunmore kept the early lead with 6 to Abingtons 1. Dunmore was able to fight their way back to a tie by taking the fourth set, with a score of 25 to 18.
As the two teams were tied with 2 sets each, we went into the fifth set with lots of stakes on the table. Dunmore was able to take the lead in the beginning with 3 to 0. Abington was able to make a comeback as Dunmore continued to be just a couple of points ahead. The score in the final set was very tight as we were reaching the end of the game with a score of 13 for Abington, 14 for Dunmore. In a tense ending to a great game, Dunmore took the set with a score of 15 to 13.
Although Dunmore won the match overall, Abington put up a good fight and gave the audience a very exciting game, keeping us on the edge of our bleachers. It’s truly wonderful seeing how supportive and energetic this group is and how you can see the amount of love and friendship that exists beyond the game. I wish all of the senior girls on the AH Volleyball Team a great senior year and a wonderful future beyond that.
