On Thursday, September 22th, the Abington Heights girls volleyball team faced Elk Lake in an exciting game. The night began with both teams warming up with some drills, leading us up to the beginning of a very entertaining evening. To represent our school spirit, our beloved mascot, Comet the Bear, joined the crowd to keep our energy high.
With a starting lineup consisting of Kayla Clark, Olivia Jackson, Sadie O’Brien, Marielle Macdonald, Maddie Smith, Regan Allison, and Katherine Hastie, we started the game off strong by taking the first set, 25 to 10. Elk Lake took the lead in the second set before we made a comeback to tie them at 10. As the second set came to a close, Elk Lake took it with a tight score of 25 to 23. Abington took the overall lead once again by winning the third set, 25 to 15. We ended the night with another tight score of 25 to 20 as Abington triumphantly took the last set.
With another win under their belt, the team celebrated their success together on the court. Special recognition to some players who did exceptionally well: Katherine Hastie (6 aces, 12 assists and 16 digs), Kate Lloyd (13 digs), Regan Allison (6 aces and 3 assists), and Kayla Clark (4 kills and 8 digs).
The team is incredibly supportive of each other, which allows for the games to feel more inviting and fun; it is really nice when the girls give each other high fives and hugs no matter if they’re succeeding or falling behind. As someone who doesn’t normally enjoy sports, I had a blast covering this game and will definitely attend others in the future.
