This fall, a project for the new multipurpose field has been off and running at Abington Heights High School. This new field will enhance the play and experience for our student-athletes. It will host soccer, lacrosse, softball, and field hockey games including practices for other sports.
“It’s going to be a multipurpose field, that’s going to include opportunities for all of our teams whether they play competition on that field or not,” explains the Athletic Director, Mr. Mastroianni.
Many students are excited for the new field including senior softball captain Lauren Stalica.
“To be able to have our own field, with updated dugouts, fences, and scoreboards, it’s going to be super awesome for our senior year.”
But, the construction is causing an increased congestion of cars in the morning and after school in the front parking lot. Many parking spots have been decreased in order to accommodate the materials and trucks needed for the construction of the new field, causing this disruption. Students will need to plan accordingly because of these changes to get to school on time.
“Once this project is complete,” explains Dr. Theony, we’ll be able to open up that space again that has been cordoned off through site management and those concrete barriers. Once that happens, we’ll have more parking available [for students who were parking at the church and new drivers].”
The field is expected to be completed by the first week of December.
