As always, October was a busy month full of fun traditions at Abington Heights. This year, Student Council continued the tradition of spirit week with dress up days, the scavenger hunt, Fun Friday, and the Homecoming dance.
On Fun Friday, the seniors accomplished a rare feat with back to back wins of the Golden Tube, having upset the class of ‘24 last year.
In addition to the traditions we have been used to, returning this year was the bonfire. This was a long-standing tradition at AH throughout time, but has not happened regularly since the 1990s. The senior class officers reinstated the tradition and hope it continues for years to come.

Seniors Robby Lucas and Maeve Ludka named the 2024 Homecoming king and queen. The ceremony took place at the Homecoming football game on Oct. 10 at the high school turf field.
“Excited!” said Ludka on how it felt to win. “It was great,” she continued about the week as a whole. “Lots of school spirit!”
The other members of the court were freshmen Cooper Manning and Aubrey Tesluk, sophomores Rory Moher and Norah Puttcamp, juniors Gia Vachino and Jason Casper, seniors Azella Carpenter, Cecelia O’Malley, Rachel Stopper, Akeela Black, Dom Vergnetti, Jack Farrell, Michael Maldonado, and Myles Knott.

Senior class officers Brock Pentasuglio, Jack Farrell, Cecelia O’Malley and Sophia Policare led the efforts to bring back the tradition of the Homecoming bonfire. With the help of school administrators and the South Abington Fire Department, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, the fire roared back to life.
“There’s no better way to kickoff the homecoming weekend than with an event that brings together the entire community. We are beyond thankful for all the students, alumni, and families that came out and we hope the tradition is solidified once again,” said Farrell, the senior class president.

Seniors Liam Fick and and Asiel Richards rush forward with the Golden Tube after discovering the senior class won Fun Friday. There was much excitement and tension in the air before the winner was announced.
Anthony Chillari said, “I think Fun Friday is a tradition that has thankfully been passed over from classes long before to bring everyone closer through competition. The benefits are nothing short of making long-lasting memories with friends.”
