This November, the National Honor Society held their annual Canned Food Drive.
The Canned Food Drive is a great way to give back to the people in the community that need help.
In the Abington Heights School District alone, roughly 14.5% of students are economically disadvantaged. That’s about 500 of our peers that can benefit from our help. This number only increases when we talk about our community as a whole.
For the first time, this year, donations were taken to the food pantry at The Gathering Place, right on State Street in Clarks Summit. By keeping the donations local, we were better able to serve those in the Abingtons.
The high school ended up receiving a total of 10,483 items, which is more than was collected in each of the past few years. Although the 12,000 can goal was not met, the number of items received was astonishing, to say the least.
Though it is not why we do things like this, because of the generosity of the students, the school help a Powder Puff Football game on the half day before Thanksgiving break.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause; you truly made a difference!
