Aylesbury High School Sixth Form

Welcome to Aylesbury High School’s Sixth Form

The two years you will spend in post-16 education are potentially the most important years in your educational life. The subjects you choose now will help to shape your future direction. Our role is to enable you to achieve not only the best possible exam results but also give you a terrific range of opportunities so that you can realise your ambitions.

We offer a really wide range of subjects and all sorts of activities, both inside and outside the classroom, that help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to take your place in the world.

Our Sixth Form has always been distinctive in having a key role in the local, national and international communities and you can expect to gain much more than paper qualifications during your time here. We have an excellent record of preparing students for life beyond school and a great deal of experience in taking students through university entrance.

I strongly believe that our Sixth Formers should work hard, play hard and enjoy their time here.

If this sounds like the place for you, please do apply as early as you can.

Good luck with your decision-making and don’t hesitate to ask for our advice at any stage.

Welcome to our Sixth Form Prospectus. We hope that this booklet provides you with the information that you need to make the best-informed decisions about the next stage of your school career, and we very much hope that Aylesbury High School can be a part of your future.

Sixth Form life is challenging and exciting. You will work hard of course, because A Levels demand consistent focus and application, but we will also help you identify and develop the full range of skills and experiences that you need to succeed in the classroom, and in all the other areas of your life as well. You will have a lot of fun along the way too. Our ambition is that by the time you leave here, you will be well-equipped for all the different challenges that life will throw at you.

The transition from GCSEs to A Levels is exciting but can also be daunting. Our Sixth Form team strive to make that transition as smooth as possible, so that you can succeed in the classroom whilst also being involved in the rich extra-curricular life of the school. Our Sixth Form team offer high quality pastoral support, and an experienced and dedicated set of Sixth Form tutors will help guide you through your two years of A Level study.

Life in a large and diverse school like this is both stimulating and challenging, but we work hard to ensure that it is also supportive and nurturing. We like to think we teach individuals not groups, and we expect to get to know you as a person and want you to feel that your place is at the very centre of school life. If you feel, as we do, that it is the combination of hard work, determination, fun and relaxation that together offer the best keys to success, then this might be just the place for you. We will do everything we can to help you achieve your full potential.

We hope you find this prospectus useful, and we look forward to meeting you here at AHS.
