Teachers who fully implement SBG in their classroom will have access to the SBG gradebook in Synergy. The gradebook allows teacher to attach learning targets to assignments and assess a student's overall grade based solely on standard proficiency.
We have been archiving all of our SBG gradebook updates in the document below:
An overview of what the SBG gradebook does, why it does it, and how it aligns with our district's implementation of effective grading practices. (Note: Synergy tutorial begins at 5:25)
Teachers must manually turn SBG Mode on in order to use the SBG gradebook. This video walks you through that process.
Some of our courses have pre-loaded SLOs in Synergy, while others do not. This video walks you through the process of either accessing or submitting your course's SLOs.

This video walks you through how to properly submit scores for assignments and SLOs
An overview of the Incomplete Guidelines can be found below (watch that first). This video explains how teachers can implement this protocol within the gradebook.
The overall score for an SLO should be based off of the most recent evidence. That is the aggregation method every teacher should use. If your gradebook is not set to that method, here's how you change it in under a minute!
The current SLO lists in Synergy represent the best thinking of our teacher groups who worked hard on this process. It is intended to be complete. If there is an exception that calls for consideration of an additional SLO, it will require a compelling reason and appeal process to have it added. We have recently crafted a protocol for this and have provided the details below:
Site PLC teams who wish to submit an additional SLO to the current course list must complete the accompanying google form.
Submissions will go directly to a designated administrator at your site. If they approve of this target, it will then be sent to the appropriate content facilitator or specialist.
If the content facilitator/specialist approves the submission, it will be added to a supplemental SLO list in Synergy (i.e., if an Algebra I team submits an SLO, it will not be added to the “AFUHSD Algebra I” list, but instead the “Supplemental Algebra I List”).
If the SLO was not approved at any point in this process, the teacher who submitted the SLO will be notified promptly
This approval process (from submission to upload) can take up to a week so please plan accordingly
There is an SBG page on the Parent Hub (link here) that provides an overview to SBG, along with several resources that will help guide parents, guardians, and students through the Synergy Gradebook. The SBG Gradebook Overview Video for Parents/Guardians is below:
