Dr. Kousar Jahan, MSc, PhD

Dr S.K.Kousar began her career in 1989 as a Junior Research Fellow of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at Center for Applied Genetics, Bangalore University, India. She carried out research on aspects of infertility and did a short term cryopreservation of human spermatozoa. In 1990 she joined Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology as a Research Scientist and carried out research as well as routine diagnostic work in cytogenetics, delivered lectures to under-graduate and post-graduate students and trained/guided students in projects for their master’s thesis and research projects. In 1992, she started her PhD program on the topic of cervical cancer and was awarded the PhD degree by Faculty of Oncology, Bangalore University in 1999. From 2002 to 2008 she was a co-investigator for breast cancer research projects funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, India. She attended conferences and participated in various national and international workshops.

After completing 20 years of service and focussing all her skills in Cancer cytogenetic diagnosis at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology Bangalore India, in January 2010 she joined Al Jawhara Centre (AJC) for Molecular Medicine and Inherited Disorders, Arabian Gulf University (AGU) as a Cytogenetics specialist and established the Cytogenetic Unit, which is first CAP accredited lab in Bahrain to carry out cytogenetic investigation on all types of samples.
