Dr. Maryam Matar graduated from Dubai Medical College, specialized in genetics and got over the years numerous awards at local and international level, in the field of health and community development. She is the founder and chairperson UAE Genetic Diseases Association and she serves as a Chairperson/senior advisor in over 15 international, regional and local committees for women, youth leadership and preventive healthcare initiatives. Dr. Maryam Matar is one of the leading influencer and a pioneer in the field of public education and awareness of genetic disorders, health and well-being of the community of UAE and the region. She was recognized among the top 100 most influential Arabs in the world for six consecutive years since 2013, the most powerful scientist in the UAE since 2014 and among top 20 Arab scientists with the biggest contribution to humanity by British Scientific Community in 2016. Dr. Maryam Matar is the first woman in position of Director General in Dubai Govt. as D.G., Community Development Authority and she is the first Emirati woman to bear the title of Undersecretary to the Minister of Health in 2006. Dr. Matar has received many awards, including the H.H. Sheikh Rashid “Academic Excellence” Award in the Faculty of Medicine (1999); “Best Healthcare Project” Award among all UAE Higher Colleges of Technology (2002);“Distinguished Employee” Award from Dubai Government Excellence Program in the Department of Health and Medical Services (2003);“Best Community Project” Award from the H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Program for Leadership Development (2004) and Emirates Businesswomen Award for “Professional Excellence” (2004).
