Günter Lepperdinger, PhD, Prof. /M His major research focus is on biogerontology in general, stem cell aging in particular with special emphasis given to ageing of mesenchymal stem cells and their application in regenerative medicine. He is a developmental biologist and biogerontologist by training. He has specialised on mesenchymal stem cell in the context of healthy human aging. He has worked as a PI since 1996 in research institutions such as the IMB Salzburg, MPI Martinsried, NIH Bethesda and IBA Innsbruck. He is full professor for Cell Biology and Genetics at University Salzburg starting since March 2015 and Director of the System-Precision-on-Chip Laboratories, destined to provide microfluidic analysis in biomedical research by means of rapid prototyping. His research group has participated in various large cooperative research networks both at the national (FWF NRN093) and international level (FP7 VascuBone, FP7 MOPACT). He has authored more than 90 research publications and served as an Associate Editor for Elsevier’s ‘Experimental Gerontology (2002-8)-currently as the Managing Editor of Karger’s ‘Gerontology’ as well as being an Editorial Board Member of several international scientific journals. He is a recipient of the Christian-Doppler-Award, the Best of Biotechnology Award, and the Werner-Welzig-Award. He is an APART fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Burgen Scholar of the Academia Europeae and Elected Life-Time Member of the International Society for Hyaluronan Sciences. He is a Co-founder and longstanding Board Member of the Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America - ASCINA.
