PEACE
PEACE (Peace through Exchange and Active Citizenship Education) is a secondary school trimester mobility programme for 15-18yo with a focus on active citizenship, taking place twice each year. The exchange includes homestays in host families and provides an immersive experience in another culture. At the end of the 3 months, the programme participants meet their peers from all over Europe at the Europe Camp in Belgium coordinated by EFIL together with a team of AFS volunteers; the Europe Camp takes place in April and late November. Here the participants get to share and reflect on their exchange experience and participate in workshops on active citizenship, European identity, global citizenship education, and on change making, and learn about the opportunities provided by EU policies to support young people in their personal, social and professional development.
The exchange programme is managed by EFIL members - AFS organisations in Europe - and EFIL's role is to support the quality of the programme by providing educational material on global, European and active citizenship, to be used during participants’ and volunteer trainings at local level.

Supporting the work on Advocacy and Research, by attending external events and reporting on them and drafting desk research reports and EFIL position papers on recognition of learning periods abroad, intercultural learning and global competences, and related funding and exchange programmes;
Supporting one specific Advocacy & Research project (Empowering Teachers for Automatic Recognition - ETAR), including communication with project partners and logistics for the organisation of a 200 people conference on recognition of learning outcomes of school exchange programmes, in April 2024, and a international training for teacher trainers in August 2024.
Supporting the governance work of EFIL, by taking minutes of Board meetings online and in presence, and overseeing logistics and preparations for the EFIL General Assembly in 2024;
Based on the volunteer's interest, support the implementation of other EFIL projects from preparation to follow-up (recruitment and communication with participants, administration, reporting, logistics, content development);
Any other tasks related to the work of EFIL to be identified during the ESC period together with the volunteer.
The volunteer will be under the supervision of Elisa Briga, Secretary General ad interim.
ETAR
The ETAR project (Empowering Teachers for Automatic Recognition) is a two-year project led by EFIL involving teacher training providers and non-profit pupil mobility organisations in Belgium (Flanders), Estonia and Poland, countries where teachers are responsible for recognition of learning outcomes of pupils after a learning period abroad. The project, which is the follow-up of the work carried out by the ‘Expert Network on Recognition of outcomes of learning periods abroad in general secondary education’ in 2020-2021, aimed at implementing the Council’s recommendation on automatic recognition adopted by EU Member states in 2018, kicked off in March 2022. Partners already organised a series of meetings with national stakeholders in the field of education to advance automatic recognition of study periods abroad for school pupils taking part in a mobility programme. A milestone of the project has been the designing of the research by the University of Bialystok (Poland) to monitor the impact of the trainings, and the implementation of the 1st Training for Teacher Trainers on Automatic Recognition in August 2022 in Belgium. The trainers teams from the three countries involved in the project then adapted the Training Model to their national context and started conducting trainings to teachers and school heads.
