Courses at Witham Sixth Forms

Witham Sixth forms offers different types of courses to suit students at three levels, so it is important that you pick the right level for you.

We offer A-Level, Vocational National Extended Certificates, National Foundation Diplomas, and GCSE courses.

A-Levels

A-Level (advanced) qualifications focus on traditional study skills and normally take two years to complete. You can choose from a wide range of academic subjects. Many students use A-Levels to go on to higher education, but they are also useful if you want to go straight into employment. If you do not have a grade 4 in GCSE Maths or English we will require you to resit these.

A-Levels: Entry Criteria

To take three subjects at A-Level you will need a minimum of 5 grade 9-4 at GCSE plus additional specific requirements for some subjects.

To take four subjects at A-Level you will need all grade 7-9 at GCSE plus additional specific requirements for some subjects.

Level 3 Vocational Courses

In all Level 3 vocational courses you will complete a number of units. Most units are assessed and graded through assignments based on work related situations on activities with opportunities for teamwork and independent study. You will develop a range of skills that are much sought after by employers and higher education such as skills in study, research, team building, IT and organisation. You will submit your work for each unit throughout the course.

Entry Criteria

You will have at least four grade 9-4s from your GCSEs or will have completed a full Level 2 vocational course linking to the Level 3 vocational course of your choice. If you have not gained at least a grade 4 in GCSE English and Maths (vital for employment and higher education) you will resit the required exam(s) alongside your vocational qualification. If you are qualified for a three A-Level course programme, you may also take a Level 3 vocational course alongside your A-Level courses.

Level 2 Vocational Courses

Level 2 vocational qualifications are one year courses aimed at providing students with an alternative to GCSEs and can lead to further training, employment or Level 3 study.
