Sanctuary School

School of Sanctuary

Unity City Academy l is delighted to be working towards the School of Sanctuary accreditation.

“A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all, especially those seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.”

Pupils is our school strive to include everyone in its community, no matter where they are from, or what their circumstances are. We run social action projects for local refugees and asylum seekers; focus on the plight of others, particularly during Refugee Week; have designated International Ambassador Buddies to support children throughout school; community celebration events; learn how to support children who have little or no English to ensure they feel part of our community; and participate in external events such as African drumming at the University and working with the Red Cross and other organisation.
