I can use bullet points

I can open sentences with adverbs to sequence instructions: First, After, Next

Part One

SPaG objective 1: I can use bullet points

Activity: Bobby Bullet Point

Aim: Show the class a picture of Bobby Bullet Point, a famous cowboy who loves to list things. He has a very unique way, combining his cowboy skills with his love of lists. How? Whenever he sees a set of instructions or something that needs a list: POW! POW! POW! And there you have it: the bullet point. Then show the pupils separate sentences that need some help from Bobby Bullet Point and his crew (the kids). Just like that, the sentences are shifted and shaped into working lists with bullet point. Use this opportunity to explain that the sentence that introduces the list should be able to make sense on its own (main clause).

Resources required: Bobby Bullet Point poster, scroll sheet, sentence list sheets

SPaG objective 2: I can use bullet points

Activity: Wish Lists

Aim: Have you ever had a wish or a wild dream? Could you answer these questions: What does the best day ever involve? If you could meet five famous people, who would they be? What are your favourite foods? Present the class with lots of cool and funky questions, and then model how to turn this into a sentence and a list with bullet points. Encourage the class to let loose and really explore their vivid imaginations.

Resources required: Wish List template sheet

Part Two

SPaG objective 1: I can open sentences with adverbs to sequence instructions: First, After, Next

Activity: This List's In A Twist

Aim: Now we know how to make lists using bullet points, it’s important we use adverbs to show the order to the reader. To help us, we can use F.A.N.T.A — not the drink: it stands For, After, Next, Then, At the end / And lastly / And finally. Show how to take a simple set of instructions: brushing teeth, making squash, cooking an egg, making a cup of tea etc and structure it using the FANTA format. Focus on combining both the bullet points and the adverbs here.
