In September 2017 a new style of governance has been introduced at the Ridge by the Department of Education through our Multi Academy Trust, AET. The governors of the Ridge Academy are as follows:
Maria has worked in education since 1998 and has been working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) since 2002. She is currently Co Principal at Wishmore Cross, an SEMH academy in Surrey. Maria is a national trainer in Managing Actual and Potential Aggression (MAPA) and has recently completed a BSc in Restraint Reduction with the University of Wolverhampton. She also has a Masters Degree in Education Leadership from the Institute of Education.
The local governors have now formed a body called the Parent and Community Advisory Board (PACB) and meet every half term as a forum for parents and the local community to have an input into the smooth running of the Ridge Academy.

Philippa Dancey has lived in Gloucestershire since 1989 and has worked in international event management following a degree in French and Spanish. She has extensive experience as a governor having been Chair of Governors of a Gloucestershire Primary School from 2002-2014. She is currently Chair of Governors of the Peak Academy, a Special Senior School for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Issues joining the governing body there in April 2014.
In conjunction with the PACB the Ridge also has a JCC (Joint Consultative Committee) as a forum for staff to give their views to the governing body.
The JCC meets once a term prior to full governing body meetings to provide views to the governors. JCC terms of reference can be found here. All staff are welcome to this meeting but our JCC representatives are:
The Governors of The Ridge Academy have a wide range of experience and expertise. They meet regularly and work in close partnership with the Principal to determine the aims, agree policies, targets, and priorities for the development of the academy in order to continuously improve the standards of education and promote a safe and caring environment for the benefit of our pupils. Academy Governors have legal duties, powers, and responsibilities. However, they can only act together, not individually.
Governors are appointed to help:
· By working in partnership with the Headteacher;
· With the implementation of the Academy Development Plan;
· Advise on spending the budget;
· Interview and select staff;
· Ensure that all aspects of the curriculum are taught.
Academy Governors are:
· Staff at the Academy;
· Local and County Council representatives;
· Community Representatives.
· Have a pupil in the Academy;
· Are elected by parents of the Academy;
· Serve, as other Governors, for four years.
Parent Governors bring the views of parents to the Governing Body, but they act and speak as individuals. They have equal status in the work of the Governing Body.
When our Parent Governors reach the end of their term of office, or if an individual resigns, parents will be invited to stand for election onto the Governing Body.
