We are proud to say that all our Sixth Form students have secured their first choice university places this year. We have seen some exceptional academic performances and we are confident that our learners will go on to achieve further success in higher education and the work place. The guidance and support we offer at Post-16 is personalised to meet the needs of every individual student and our curriculum offers a targeted combination of high performing vocational and academic courses. – Dr Jo Trevenna – Head of School
Our Sixth Form at Sir Herbert Leon Academy provides a wide variety of academic and vocational courses to enable its students to achieve their potential. We have experienced, enthusiastic and inspiring teachers which together with caring and knowledgeable support staff create an aspirational learning environment designed to embed an excitement for educational exploration.
We passionately believe that the background of our students should not be a barrier to their attainment, if you join us you will be equipped with the skills and qualifications to confidently move into university, training, higher education or directly into employment in jobs offering genuine career prospects. When you join the Sir Herbert Leon Academy Sixth Form and move into the more challenging world of Level 3 qualifications, our dedicated and talented teachers will work with you to secure a balanced educational experience that will enable you to have genuine choices about your future.
The Sir Herbert Leon Academy has invested in a new Sixth Form centre, which opened in September 2014. It is a dedicated part of the school and includes a fully refurbished Study Area with state-of-the-art computer equipment, wi-fi facilities, a dedicated careers service provided by Mrs Jones, our expert careers advisor, to help plan your future, and a café offering excellent value and high quality snacks, meals and drinks.
Many of our students went to the universities of their choice last year, with the remainder moving onto employment with genuine prospects, apprenticeships or other training/higher education. Many students had some remarkable achievements – for example Kieran Gaskell received two A Level A grades for Maths and English Literature, alongside gaining D*D*D* in Performing Arts. Kieran is now starting his first year at Lincoln University.
Sir Herbert Leon Academy believes that your time with us should not just be about achieving the best academic and vocational qualifications (although this is obviously very important) but also ensuring that you find the whole experience with is fulfilling and enjoyable. You will be encouraged to engage in a wide range of enrichment activities. Alongside this, as a role model for younger students, you will help and support younger students in their studies through the Student Contribution Scheme. Your time in Sixth Form will require hard work if you are to succeed, but that does not mean that it should not be fun and rewarding.
