We are delighted to share AET's Let's Talk Futures' careers education resources for parents with you

Sir Herbert Leon Academy Link:

The link above will take you to:

● A range of Parental Guides - digital magazines containing key information for parents relating to your child's future choices, qualifications and progression routes.

● Access to 'Do Together Tasks' - activities that you can use with your children to begin to think and talk about career choices.

● A registration link for KS4 parents to sign up to attend an AET school’s webinar - where a panel of career leaders, career advisers and employers will discuss qualification types, the range of progression routes available, what employers look for in young people, the jobs market of the future and how you can help children make informed decisions about their future study and career options. Parents will have an opportunity to submit a question in advance and will be able to ask questions live through the chat facility during the webinar.

The ‘Thinking about the Future - A webinar for KS4 parents and their children' will take place on Wednesday 11th May, 6:15pm-7pm and KS4 parents must register via the link provided. The webinar will take the format of a panel discussion, where a range of experts, including careers leaders, careers advisers and an employer will discuss future study and work options, qualification types, the variety of progression routes available and what parents can do to support their children in the decision-making process.

Enjoy the resources and we look forward to you joining AET for the live webinar on Wednesday 11th May at 6:15pm.

We are delighted to be launching Unifrog across our school. Unifrog is an award winning careers platform that is designed to support our students in making the most informed decisions about their futures. It has a range of tools that are suitable for all of our year groups. Each student has their own personal account that provides a wide range of information related to their interests and aspirations. All students have received welcome emails and many have already started using this amazing careers platform. We are also launching the platform to parents this week and a letter containing the special link has gone out.

Careers programme

Careers Education at SHL:

How the career programme is delivered:

The career programme is delivered across the school to all year groups with different foci according to the age of the student.

  • Professionals from a wide variety of job roles are invited in to meet students and provide information about their roles and businesses. These can be for a year group or small group of students. ‘Speed Dating’ activities have been incorporated to help with developing students’ knowledge of career paths and skills in communicating with people.

  • Access is provided to job searching and skills evaluation tools.

  • Drop-in sessions are held for all students including sixth form to discuss work experience, internships, volunteering, career options, apprenticeships etc. These are held every Thursday in the Library by Mr Murray.

  • We hold several sessions during the academic year involving local employers and colleges who come in to talk to our students.

Our new student portal (Run by ‘Work-ready’) has access to a careers area where:

Talk and visit information is advertised
