Dr Trevenna - Principal
Dr Trevenna joined the Academy in September 2015 as Head of School and was appointed Principal in June 2016. Having grown up in Bletchley, Dr Trevenna has a strong affinity with Sir Herbert Leon Academy and the community it serves. She is driven to ensure that Academy students are provided with opportunities to succeed in their education and beyond. Working with staff and students, Dr Trevenna is committed to raising educational standards and student aspirations at the Academy.
Dr Trevenna left school at 16 following her completion of GCSEs but returned to full-time education in her 20s. She graduated from De Montfort University with a first class degree in English in 1998 and obtained her PhD from the University of Hertfordshire in 2001. This experience of returning to education and experiencing first-hand the opportunities that further and higher education opens up, shapes her determination to encourage educational achievement and to challenge barriers faced by disadvantaged children.
Mrs Ainsworth - Vice Principal
Mrs Ainsworth joined the Academy in April 2014 as Vice Principal and lead practitioner for Teaching and Learning. She is passionate about students receiving quality experiences in and out of the classroom and being nurtured to achieve their full potential. Since April 2016, she has moved from leading Teaching and Learning to working within Standards, where she now works with staff to ensure that assessments are meaningful, purposeful and provide powerful indicators of students’ performance in their subjects and likely outcomes. Previous to her role at the Academy, Mrs Ainsworth worked at an all through (3-18 years) Academy in Daventry, East Northamptonshire as Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning. Further to this role, she also led on new staff induction and Initial Teacher Training. Prior to senior leadership roles, Mrs Ainsworth was a Head of Science for four years. She firmly believes in students learning through doing and loves the practical application within her subject. Mrs Ainsworth graduated from Leicester University with a BSC (Hons) degree in Biology and Psychology and gained QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) through a school centred training programme.
Ms Causer - Vice Principal
Ms Causer joined the Academy in January 2016 as Director of Post 16 and was then subsequently promoted to Vice Principal in February 2017. She is determined that every student is able to achieve their potential through excellent pastoral care as well as giving opportunities for students to take part in an enriched curriculum to complement their chosen studies. Ms Causer also line manages the academy's excellent house system, the cover team, careers programme, SEN provision for the academy and attendance. Previous to her role at the Academy, Ms Causer worked at another Milton Keynes secondary school for 10 years where she was a successful Head of Faculty, leading on whole school initiatives. Ms Causer graduated from De Montfort University, Bedford with a BA (Hons) degree in Sport Studies with English. Afterwards she completed her PGCE in secondary Physical Education. Ms Causer has also recently completed her NPQSL.
Miss Hannah-Jayne Holmes - Assistant Principal
Miss Horne has taught English in Bletchley for over 12 years. After completing her PGCE at Cambridge University, she went straight into classroom teaching. She has a particular passion for teaching and learning and has worked with several trainee teachers to help them learn how to deliver structured, varied and engaging lessons. Miss Horne was asked to teach on the Buckingham University SCITT course with student teachers and has a good track record of improving the practice of English teachers.
She was KS5 manager, second in English and then Head of English for many years in Milton Keynes. In more recent years, Miss Horne was a Lead Practitioner and has worked closely with many teachers, helping them hone their skills and ensure better student progress in lessons.
Ms Katie Braham - Assistant Principal
Mrs Braham joined the Academy in April 2018 as Assistant Principal, with responsibility for Pupil Premium and Assessment and Reporting. Mrs Braham has previously taught in schools in London and Oxford where she has shared her passions for Science and developing students' experiences, skills and confidence to access opportunities beyond school and make active decisions about their own futures. She has had positive impact on student progress in her leadership roles within Science departments and at a whole school level. Mrs Braham graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA (Hons) degree in Biological Sciences and gained QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) through Teach First. She has also completed a masters in Leadership at the Institute of Education, UCL.
