General Expectations

Homework is given in the form of topic related activities, which motivate and inspire your child to be creative in their own learning out of school. Tasks are outlined on the termly newsletter and the children are expected to complete and hand in a piece of homework each week. Extra homework reinforcing maths or literacy will be given as necessary too.

Spellings will be given out on Friday and tested the following Friday. They will combine words from both the Year 3 and Year 4 curriculum and follow spelling patterns to make learning them easier for your child.

PE days are Tuesday (indoor) and Wednesday (outdoor). We advise that PE kits come into school on a Monday and they will be sent home when no longer needed that week. Please ensure appropriate indoor and outdoor kit is in school.

Remember to use Espresso at home.

Your login details can be found in the front of your reading diary.

What is Espresso?

Espresso is the UK's leading educational digital content company. It is available for parents and children to use at home. The aim is to transform learning at home by providing high-quality educational resources. Espresso Primary is easy to use and is supportive in every area of the year 4 curriculum. I would particularly use it, at home, to practise times tables and extend topic learning. It can be very useful when your child is doing their homework too, so get exploring!

Fly High with Reading!

Reading records and checked daily in year 4. If your child has read 3 or more times in the week, at home, they move up a bow on our kite. Once they reach the kite at the top they will be entered into a year 4 prize draw!

You have to be in it to win it!

Health Day

We spent our health day learning all about teeth.

Teeth is one of our science topics this year and we now know about the different types of teeth we have in our mouths and their functions.

The children worked together to label the different teeth and describe their functions.

They also enjoyed creating their own information booklet about teeth and had fun practising brushing teeth too.

We also spent some of the day talking about mental health and discussing how we could ensure our own well being. We had fun making lavender pouches that we can use them to keep us calm and relaxed.

Our Electricity Topic

The children have enjoyed learning all about electricity! We found out about how electricity is made and how it gets to our homes and what we use it for. We explored making a circuit effectively so that a bulb, buzzer or a fan worked. We also looked at the importance of a switch and how that affects a circuit. The children especially enjoyed testing everyday items to test if they were a conductor or an insulator, you can see their engagement in the images below. Ask your child what they found out!
