Luckily the sun shone on this very busy day! Thank you to all the people who helped make the day such a success and the garden area look so good!
EVERYONE worked SO hard today on the Year 1 garden area - please respect this by NOT sitting on the garden edge!

Mrs Myall's Class have had a very busy week! A mum in Mrs Myall's class entered a competition and won a class treat of an ice-cream each from Gelato Italia! Naughty but Nice!!

Forest Schools - Session 3!
Year 1 pupils were not able to go to the woods for their latest Forest Schools session as Squirrel Sue was poorly (another date will be rescheduled before half term if possible). Instead, they went onto the field to complete a Rainbow Scavenger Hunt, finding different objects to match the colours of the rainbow. They also collected sticks, leaves, and other natural objects in order to make an Enchanted Woods collage in the afternoon. They also used these natural objects to make clay faces to scare away the Plumberowogre.
(Get Well Soon Squirrel Sue!)
Year 1 pupils this week have been Super Scientists! They have been planning investigations for planting beans, changing one thing, like giving their bean orange juice rather than water, or planting it in wool, rather than soil.
They have been making predictions about how the bean will grow, and considering how to make it a fair test. They have also written instructions and a list of equipment they will need. They will be carrying out their investigations later!!

At this session, the pupils were reminded of the Forest School rules and then went on to make fairy houses and dens for the ogre, following on from their new topic work on Enchanted Woods where the ogre had destroyed the houses of the fire fairies!
The Fire Fairies have visited the Year 1 classrooms to leave some resources to build some new homes which the terrible Plumberogre has been destroying! The pupils were asked to make them new homes and then write instructions to inform them how to make them!
Easter in Year 1!
Year 1 have been set a challenge this week by Peter Rabbit. He is helping the Easter Bunny, and has been asked to hide some Easter Eggs from Mr Todd. The children went outside and found a suitable place to hide the eggs. They had to note down the features they passed on the way, so they can write rhyming riddles later in the week to describe the whereabouts of the eggs! They are also drawing maps to plot their hiding places! Mrs Clarke/Mrs Clayton's Class and Ms Browne/Miss Jones' Class have also been making clay animals and tiles, Easter Cards and Easter baskets!
Homes for Jeremy Fisher!
Mrs Myall's Class have been making their shoebox pond homes for Jeremy Fisher. They had previously designed and labelled their own designs, and so it was time to make them! The children decided on the materials and techniques they would use!
Miss Jones/Ms Browne's class have also made their Jeremy Fisher houses. They then coloured in the Jeremy Fisher mural that a talented dad had drawn on their wall!
Year 1 are learning about Poetry! For their homework they had to find a poem and try to learn it off by heart to perform to the class!

As part of their Beatrix Potter English, they talked about all the vocabulary they could use to persuade Mr Jeremy Fisher that this was a super place for him to build a new home! They also worked with partners to describe the different parts of the pond using as many adjectives as possible.
Wizard of Oz Day!
As the conclusion to their 'Wizard of Oz' topic, Year 1 held a Wizard of Oz Day! Each Year 1 classroom had a set of different activities and the children moved between them. In Mrs Myall's room, they made scarecrows, witches and the emerald city. In Mrs Clayton's room, they made rainbow paper plates, rainbow shaving foam printing and baskets with Toto. In Ms Browne's room they made tin men and made a collage of Dorothy! In the afternoon, all Year 1 got together as a Year group and sang songs and acted out parts of the story. A busy, fun filled day!!
(Some of the work from our Wizard of Oz topic and Special day is now on display outside the Year 1 classrooms!)
The Year 1 teachers have been so impressed and proud with the Wizard of Oz writing of their pupils that they invited parents in after school to view their children's work! The children have all written their own versions of the Wizard of Oz story, taking so much pride and enthusiasm in their work that the teachers wanted to share their hard work with their families.
Well done Year One!
Year 1 Assembly
Year one pupils shared some of their Wizard o f Oz Work at a KS1 assembly! They shared their story openings, their story maps where they planned their own three characters, some art work of rainbows and glittery ruby slippers and their science work... parts of the body and the senses! They sang heads shoulders knees and toes and Somewhere Over The Rainbow followed by all the pupils joining in!
Mrs Myall's Class have been working on their story writing in English this half term and in preparation for writing their own stories, they have been looking for examples of brilliant story openers. They worked with a partner to hunt for good story openings, looked at the vocabulary used and what made them effective. The best story openers were added to their working wall, ready to help with planning their own stories!
Spring Term! - Over the Rainbow!
Mrs Myall was really proud of her class who worked so well as part of a team to create this amazing rainbow, working independently!
They have started their new topic titled - 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' (Wizard of Oz). and this was a rainbow that they worked on together ready for their Role Play area, which has been set up as the Emerald City!
In Mrs Clayton and Mrs Clarke's class, pupils have also started the new year with a bang! They too have started their Wizard of Oz topic and even did a spot of yoga!
