Girls' Football Team-Tournament at Colchester United!

'Plumberow Girls took part in a World Cup football competition at Colchester United's Community Training ground. There were two groups and we were placed in Group B. Our captain had to pull a country out of the bag to find out what team we would represent and managed to pull out England!

We were placed in our group alongside Morocco, France, and Gerrmany

The group consisted of 12 rounds where we played every country twice, meaning we had 6 matches to play.

The girls played some nice football, but lacked goals which cost us in very close contested games.

Morocco 1v0 England

France 2v1 England

Germany 1v0 England

England 0v0 Morocco

England 0v0 France

England 0v0 Germany

So after losing narrowly to the 3 countries in our group we then matched them in the return games, which suggests with a goal scorer with us we could have done very well and possibly, I think, won the whole competition; but that is something we will never know.' Well played Girls.

Southend United Football Club!

'Plumberow Academy football team played in a tournament hosted by Southend United at their home of football, Roots Hall. The group games were 12 minutes each game, played straight through. We were placed in Group B in a group of 5 - Grovewood pulled out, so down to 4 in our group. Results:

Plumberow 1v0 St Michaels

Darlinghurst 0v0 Plumberow

Plumberow 0v0 Bournemouth Park

So we went through to quarter finals as runner up. In the quarter final we met Gt Wakering. At full time the score was 0v0 so it went to 3 penalties.

Piers was first to take and scored.

Finley Hooper was second to take and scored.

Wakering scored both theirs too.

Arthur stood up to take our final penalty, sent their keeper the wrong way but it hit the post!

Wakering stepped up and scored.

Throughout the tournament we played some lovely football and although only scoring once, we were the only team not to concede a goal on the Day! Well done Plumberow Academy.'

League Match v Holt Farm

'The football team visited Holt Farm for a league game. The game kicked off and Plumberow straight away got off on the front foot, making the Holt Farm keeper pull off 3 great saves in the first 5 minutes! Then the ball fell to Arthur just inside Holt Farm's half and he hit an unstoppable shot into the keeper's top corner! Pressure continued with Plumberow putting some good moves together, forcing saves and corners. From one of these corners, the ball was knocked towards the far post when Piers rose and headed it neatly in! Again, Plumberow were showing they meant business and now, picking up free kicks, got one 25 yards out. I called for our keeper, Finley to take it - Finley stepped up and it flew into the top corner! The game continued in this fashion - although Holt Farm were playing good football, Plumberow were just too good on the day. Finley N , Frank and Alex added to the scoreline with Holt Farm grabbing a consolation goal. Final score 1v6 to Plumberow.

A great season finishing off with the Boys winning their League, winning all their games , and the Girls winning their league, winning all their games!

Well done all!'

League Match v Gt. Wakering

'Plumberow boys visited Gt Wakering for a football league game . Wakering are always a tough school to play , and I didn’t expect any less today. The game started on a small pitch as I thought it would, and finding space around the opposition meant sadly running out of room. 18 minutes into the game, the ball fell to Frank , who hit it but their keeper keeper saved but then he hit the rebound into the net. The first half seemed to go on forever, but then the whistle was blown - 0v1 at half time.

Three changes at half time and the introduction of Libby! Libby has been playing brilliantly for the girls and I had no worries about her being good enough. We started the 2nd half quite strongly but Wakering were not going to roll over. the ball was knocked over the top and a great turn left one v one with Finley. A cool finish and now the score was level. Then we started to turn the screw and Piers played a lovely ball to Frank. Frank passed to Arthur and Arthur hammered home across keeper - 1v2. Then a pass into Wakering’s box and Frank chests the ball over the line - 1v3. The game was now won after a fine display by all!'

Well done Team

Girls' League Match v St. Teresa's

'The latest girls' league match was against St Teresa’s. Speaking to the girls before the game, I asked them to play their football and get the ball moving. The girls in the first half never let me down, if anything probably overpassing in areas . At half time, after numerous chances and good defending by St Teresa’s, the score was 0v0.

After speaking to the girls at half time and with 4 changes, the girls went out and within 3 minutes went 0v1 up, a lovely one touch finish! A minute later, another one touch finish, then St Teresa’s just could not get out of their half. Goal after goal followed - no different from first half of play other than the finishing!

Final result - St Teresa’s 0v7 Plumberow with Emily scoring 4 and Libby scoring 3!!

Great display by the girls!'

Jim Smith v Ingatestone

'In the next round of the Jim Smith Cup, Plumberow were up against Ingatestone. The Ingatestone Head was not happy with size of pitch and wanted to play the retreat rule, the keeper not allowed to kick out of hands. We went along with this, which really impeded our quick breakaways. We kicked off and within 2 minutes we were 1v0 up after a fine move and finish. It wasn’t long before Ingatestone equalised - we left our positions too often and finally got punished. Half time 1v1 and we had a chat about holding positions! Ingatestone came out after half time with bags of energy and really tested our keeper who matched their efforts, but following wave after wave of pressure, they finally stripped down our left hand side and struck the ball into top corner - our keeper was finally beaten. And that’s how it finished - Final score - Plumberow 1v2 Ingatestone & Fryerns'

'B' Team friendly v Hockley

'The Plumberow 'B' Team played against Hockley 'B' Team in a football match which has long been waited for. The game kicked off and both teams enjoyed some fine exchanges being denied by some fine defending or good goalkeeping. In the first half, Hockley had the lions share, although Plumberow counterattacked on quite a few occasions. Then with a nice passing move, Hockley found the ball sitting at a player's feet who swiftly tucked it away - 0v1 Hockley. The game continued with Hockley on top but with some good goalkeeping by Alex in the Plumberow goal. Half time 0v1 The 2nd half restart and Plumberow aimed to make amends and put the pressure on Hockley. Now the game domination had switched to Plumberow’s favour, and it was Hockley threatening with counterattacking. The game was flowing backwards and forwards! (I can vouch for this as when I ref I don’t stand in the middle, I travel with ball flow!) Good defending was stopping both sides and it looked like 0v1 was going to be the result, then a shot was flying into Hockley’s net producing a fine save from their keeper, but he could only just get his hand to it, and the ball dropped to Asher who passed into the goal. 1v1 the result after a finely contested game which ended with the share of the spoils.

I really enjoyed being part of a sporting spectacle played in such great spirit!'

Year 4 v Ashingdon (friendly)

'A team of Year 4s went to Ashingdon to play a friendly football game. The Year 4s have not played in a team together so it was going to be a test for them. The game kicked off and Ashingdon straight away showed they had a few players who could play. Plumberow spent most of the first half trying to get out of their penalty box, and this happened time and time again. Due to the relentless pressure, goals were scored, including a wonderful strike which hit the far corner with a nice swerve. So 4v0 down at half time, and really all that could be said was that we needed to push further up the pitch and create problems. We started well and a fine run from Mia Hawkins finished with the ball ️ in the bottom corner, 4v1. But the game continued to be dominated by Ashingdon and eventually another two goals were scored. The game finished Ashingdon 6v1 Plumberow. A great effort by Plumberow and a return fixture has been asked for & agreed'.

Girls Football - County Finals!

'The girls' football team travelled to Melbourne Park, Chelmsford, to play in the Girls County Football Finals. After what was not the best start to the day, we arrived at the venue, where we were told there had been some additions to the competition and they needed to write out the fixtures again. Eventually we were told what the format was. We were in a group of 8, which meant we had 7 games to play, 7 minutes a game.

Here is the result of the group games -

Plumberow 0v0 Whitecourt

Plumberow 0v0 Shenfield St. Marys

Plumberow 1v0 Moulsham

Plumberow 3v1 Tanya Dell

Plumberow 3v0 Epping

Plumberow 2v2 Westleigh

Plumberow 2v1 Great Berry

So we won our group and went through to the finals, where we played the winners of the other group, Heycroft. The Final was 0v0 after 7 minutes, so 3 minutes extra time was played. Heycroft scored with a minute left! That looked like that was going to be it, but not with these girls! Great forward play and the ball was slammed home, 1v1, and that's how it finished! So penalties - 3 each to be taken. If equal after 3, then sudden death! We took our first - keeper saved. Heycroft score 0v1. We took our second - keeper beaten but the ball hits the crossbar! Heycroft take theirs - Ashlee saves! We take our 3rd and need to score, but the keeper saves! So we lose in the final, 0v1 on penalties! The girls were fantastic in blustery conditions! Undefeated in 7...Losing 1...Scoring 12...Conceding 4. A FANTASTIC achievement! Goalscorers - Libby Cooper 11 and Katie Ogden 1'

League game v Westerings

'In our latest football challenge we hosted a boys' league game against Westerings Primary. I spoke to the boys before the game telling them that I didn't want them to concentrate on goals today - but more on the different parts of their game. To work on possession, keeping the ball and movement. We played with our first choice keeper on the pitch too, which allowed Alex, a fine goalkeeper in his own right, to don the sticks. The boys were very respectful in the way they went about their football, and pushed the ball around nicely in all areas. It was nice to see them and hear them saying, 'no goals - keep the ball', just as I had asked from them. Westerings were a credit to their school! They kept going to the end - a very big well done to them! And well done to Plumberow for showing maturity beyond their years, led by the ever impressive captain, Piers! Final result - Plumberow 10v0 Westerings'

Parish Cup v Shenfield St. Mary's

'We welcomed Shenfield St Mary’s to Plumberow to play in the 2nd round of the Parish cup. They arrived early and gave themselves a good, thorough warm up. Unfortunately, Plumberow players were coming out as and when they were able, which hindered their warm up. The game kicked off and straight away you could tell this was going to be a tough match. Not only were St Mary’s tall lads, they also had the physicality to go with their height. We were under pressure and St Mary’s got a corner - a good ball in and a good header and we were 0v1 down. 2 minutes later they got through again and a striker was brought down in box - penalty given. The keeper saved but the taker reacted quickly and tucked away the rebound - 0v2. 5 minutes later their player was brought down on edge of box. The free kick found the top corner - 0v3. When half time came I spoke to the boys about character, saying that I didn't care if we lost this game 0v7 but I wanted to see more from them! They went out for the 2nd half and did just that and no more goals were scored so the game finished 0v3. Plumberow boys faced a big, strong team and were in awe of them for the first half. We must learn to deal with physical teams from the beginning.'

Girls' League Match v Hockley

'The girls played a football league match against Hockley Primary. The game started with some lovely passing by Plumberow, with the ball spending long periods in the Hockley half. 10 minutes in and an unstoppable shot from a Plumberow midfielder sent the ball into the bottom corner! Hockley rallied after that and started working with a bit more purpose, but then the ball fell to a Plumberow striker who saw their keeper was off her line, and delightfully chipped in for number two! The 3rd followed quickly through hesitant defending and a Plumberow striker who took full advantage! So, 3v0 at half time. The second half saw Plumberow having the greater possession but Hockley were keeping them out by fine goalkeeping and defending, but, if you are allowed too many chances eventually one will be taken,so, 4v0. Once again Hockley pushed themselves into the game, and now it was Plumberow’s turn to save and block. But Plumberow took their chances well on the day and the 5th was nicely slammed Home. Great game by both teams played in the right spirit. Final score - Plumberow 5V0 Hockley'

Jim Smith - Group Game v St. Mary's, Prittlewell

'Plumberow traveled to St Mary's Primary for their final Jim Smith group game. Playing on a pitch half the size of Plumberow,, with goals that were smaller than 12 by 6, I knew this could be a real test for the boys! As always we kept the ball for long periods, but through the pitch being so small, it was hard to break through. Then one of our players was brought down about 10 yards outside the box - a neatly taken free kick ended up top corner - 0v1!That was the score at half time with St Mary's hitting our post, and us having numerous chances. The 2nd half started and within 5 minutes, it was 1v1, St Mary's gathered some confidence from this and began applying good pressure which forced our keeper into making a great save! Then out of nowhere, the boys picked up the pace and scored - 1v2, After that they never looked back, and continued to attack attack attack! it was soon 1v3, 1v4, and this is with St Mary's goalkeeper and defence denying goal scoring chances. The game was now over and we continued to score. Game finished 1v7! Well done boys!'

Girls League Match v Westerings

'The girls have played their 1st football league game against Westerings Academy. The game was played with lovely passing and movement from both sides. The game was into the 12 minute before a goal was scored - a fine bit of footwork by Plumberow's captain followed by a great finish! Soon, the same player slammed in another to make it 2v0! Still the passing from both sides sent the game from end to end, when with 30 seconds of the first half left, Plumberow got their 3rd goal, again with a finely struck finish which was too strong for the hands of the keeper! Half time, and subs were made. Both teams came out for the 2nd half with exactly the same passion, but another mazey run by our captain made it 4 nil. Both sides still pushed the ball around, again flowing end to end. Then, with 2 passes through to the captain who rounded the last defender and slipped the ball past the advancing keeper, made it 5v0!. So 5v0 the final score with the captain scoring 4. Westerings played really well and it was a pleasure to play them'.

Jim Smith - Group Game v Wyburns

'We welcomed Wyburns Primary School to Plumberow to play the next group game in the Jim Smith Cup. During the warm up I could sense things were not quite as sharp as normal so I spoke to the boys, telling them that they needed to be up for every game. The game kicked off and my suspicions were confirmed! We gave the ball away cheaply and were overdoing things! Half time came and the score was 0 v 0! Once again I spoke to the boys, telling them that they needed to fully apply themselves. In the 2nd half we went out and within 7 minutes we went 1 v 0 up! We were now playing slightly better, but not completely as I like! The 2nd and 3rd goals were in quick succession, and then a fine worked goal gave us the 4th! So the final result - 4 - 0! I guess to win when not playing well shows strength - a win is a win!'

Jim Smith - Group Game v Bournemouth Park!

It was non-stop matches for the boys' Football squad!!

'The boys' next match saw the team playing against Bournemouth Park Primary in the 2nd game in our group. Bournemouth Park started very well and passed the ball nicely, but then we started to dictate play and dominate the wings and centre midfield and the fine passing by us led to 3 goals by half time! The 2nd half saw us come out after 3 changes of personnel and continue to dominate the game, keeping the ball for long periods. The boys were totally in control throughout the game and ran out 7 v 0 winners A fine display by the boys! Next up Wyburns!'

Jim Smith Cup - Group Game v Edward Francis!

'10 boys traveled to Edward Francis School to play the first game in their group in the Jim Smith Cup! The game started very well, with the boys passing the ball with more fluency than when we played Hockley Primary. Edward Francis worked hard to keep us out, but a fine pass to the left and a well driven cross was met on the far post, 0 v 1! Then the boys really pushed and goals followed - 0 v 4 at half time! The 2nd half saw Edward Francis come out to try and salvage something from the game, but a fine solo run with a little pass finished neatly in the corner - 0 v 5. We continued to play neat 'one two' passes and it was soon 0 v 6 then 0 v 7! A fine display by the boys! Next up Bournemouth Park Primary!'

Three groups with the winners and runners up going through with the best overall third place. Then the quarter final, semi-final then Final! Throughout the tournament the girls played some lovely football, good passing and movement, pressuring opposition into making mistakes. The girls behaviour was exemplary and we can be very proud on how they represented Plumberow Primary Academy! Results as follows.

Kents Hill 0 v 2 Plumberow

Lubbins Park 0 v 6 Plumberow

Westerings 0 v 4 Plumberow

Quarter Final - Grove 0 v 1 Plumberow

Semi-Final - Wyburns 0 v 2 Plumberow

League Match v Hockley

'The boys played their first League match of the 2017/18 season against Hockley Primary. We started off well, some lovely passing and good keeping of the ball was evident for all to see. This continued for all the first half, but we were over passing, and sometimes the hard work Hockley was putting in exposed this. But Plumberow kept knocking, and a good move sent the ball hard into the keepers bottom right. Straight from kick off we regained possession and once again kept the ball for long periods with good defending. Over passing and missed chances were making the game seem very close! But then, again through a fine run, a nice pass and good finish, we earned a little bit of breathing space. True to form, Hockley were not giving up! Working hard to try getting back into game, pressure from Hockley caused a mistake and our captain passed the ball past the keeper to score an own goal. These things happen and the boys soon put it behind them. With passing from the back, through to middle and a fine pass out to right wing, a decent cross was met by our forward, who headed the ball against Hockley's crossbar, a great goal that would have been! The game finished 2v1 to Plumberow. Great passing by Plumberow, and great work rate by Hockley made it an entertaining game to watch. Well done to both Schools.'

Castle Point Football Tournament!

'In their first football of the new academic year, the football squad of 10 boys represented Plumberow Primary Academy in the Castle Point football tournament organised by The Deanes Sports Partnership. The matches were ten minutes straight through, with normal FA rules applying. 19 Schools entered the competition, and were placed into three groups, each group playing their matches on their group's pitch. When all Schools had completed their group matches, the schools who finished first and second in their groups and the best overall third place finishers went through to the quarter finals. From then on, the competition followed the normal route of semi-final and then final. There were 5 other schools in our group. The results were -

Riverside 0 v 1 Plumberow

Lubbins Park 0 v 3 Plumberow

Rayleigh 0 v 2 Plumberow

South Benfleet 1 v 1 Plumberow

Canvey Junior 0 v 3 Plumberow

Plumberow then went through to quarter finals as winners of the group. In the quarter final the match ended Grovewood 0 v 1 Plumberow In the semi final the match ended Glebe 0 v 2 Plumberow. In the Final, Plumberow were unfortunately beaten - Kents Hill 1 v 0 Plumberow The final was a tight game with Plumberow losing to a deflected shot.
