Cross Country - Count Finals - Individuals!

'Today, we were once again back at Hadleigh Olympic Park for the Individuals' County Cross Finals . Once again it was a blistering hot day!

Years 3&4 had a distance of 1000 metres and Years 5&6, 1500 metres.

The 1st , 2nd, and 3rd placed individual after each race was presented with a medal and those who finished in the top 10, names were taken and will be published in the newspaper as the top 10 runners in Essex.

Each race allegedly had 130 runners taking part - I think these numbers varied in some races, but well over the 80 mark in all. We had a Year 3 Girl, Year 5 Girl & Boy, two Year 6 Girls and one year 6 boy running and here are the results -

130 runners

Erin 22nd

Alexa 29th

Sam 14th

Ella 28th

Aimee 5th

Jacob 30 th

Brilliant running and the behaviour for a long hot day was outstanding!!'

Cross Country - Count Finals - Year 5 and Year 6 Teams!

'Today, I took a Year 5 girls' team and a Year 6 girls' team to Hadleigh Country Park to compete in the County Cross Country finals. 6 runners in each team, and the positions of the first four runners home from each team are added up to get the teams result. The girls got to this stage by winning their age group category in the Castle Point Cross Country event.

On a sweltering hot day with very little breeze we sat around the overgrown areas of Hadleigh Park waiting for the Year 5 girls race then to be followed by the Year 6 girls race.

The course was set across uneven ground, up hills, leveling out then onto down hill and then a big climb uphill again for the finish! The distance of the race was 1,500 metres with 84 runners in each race!

The girls from both year groups ran a fantastic race and can feel very proud of themselves as I was of them. Here are the results.

Proud of you all!'

County Finals - Individuals

WOW!! Our 2 Year 5 individual Cross Country runners who qualified for the County Finals which took place on a very testing track at Hadleigh, finished in 6th and 7th place! Against 42 of the best runners from 14 schools this was an AMAZINGachievement!

'On Tuesday 25th April, two of our Year 5 girls who came 1st and 3rd in the Castle Point Cross Country, went to compete in the Individual Cross Country County Finals at Hadleigh Olympic Park. The sun was shining but a real cold wind was blowing, which sometimes took your breath away. The girls were in a race that was going to be a real test of their ability! 42 girls from 14 schools in a race, over 1.5k taking in some steep hills. The girls set off. Halfway through, the girls had put themselves in a comfortable position 15th and 17th. With around 400 metres to go and climbing, the girls made their final push on the other competitors. Showing real grit, determination, stamina and endurance, they finished the race in 6th and 7th position - a fantastic achievement to be in the top ten runners of their age group in the county.'

Very proud of them both.' (report from Mr Toovey)

The Year 5 Girls Cross Country squad who qualified for the County Finals finished in 3rd place!

Up against 14 schools this was an amazing result!!

'The Year 5 girls cross country team took their place at the Country finals, which were held at Hadleigh Country Park. The 6 girls had qualified through winning the Year 5 girls team event at the Castle Point Cross Country event, where 26 schools had entered. In the year 5 final, there were 14 schools, each with a team of six, who ran 1.5K on a very demanding course, which included steep hills and uneven ground. The first four runners home from each school were given a card with their position on. The positions were then added up to give a team score. Plumberow girls ran brilliantly in a race where 14 schools (84 children!) competed for a top 3 place. Our final position overall was 3rd place with a great score of 81, with two of our girls finishing 2nd and 3rd in the race itself. For two consecutive years now, this Year Team has made it through to the County finals for this event - a great achievement. Well done Girls!'
