Plumberow PCAB Impact Report November 2018

Meet Our Parent Community Advisory Board

Emma Whitehouse

I have a daughter who has recently finished Year 6 at Plumberow Primary Academy and since she started at Plumberow I have tried to be part of the school as much as possible by helping in the classroom, being part of the PTA, a school governor and now on the PCAB. I moved to Hockley in the hope that my daughter would be given a place at Plumberow, and can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I made. She has done nothing but flourish under the Plumberow 'Umbrella'. I run my own business, a law firm, which I relocated to Hawkwell to be closer to our home and the School so that I could be on hand whenever needed and play a very proactive part in the School and not only my daughter’s education and wellbeing, but all the children here at Plumberow.

Both of my children attend Plumberow, I have a daughter in year 6 and a son in year 4. My son has additional learning needs and we receive excellent SEN support from the school. I would be delighted to act as a conduit for parents with concerns regarding SEN issues as part of my role on the PCAB. I grew up in the area and went to Ashingdon School and then onto Greensward and SEEVIC. I am currently on a sabbatical from my job in the Diplomatic Service but am due to return to work in the next year. My position in the Civil Service has given me a good understanding of how government works and, I am hoping, will help me in this role on the PCAB.

After a career in the music industry I decided to move into education to support my own 3 children in their learning and development. Initially training as a Montessori Teacher at Montessori Centre International, London, I then went on to complete my degree in Early Years at the University of Greenwich. It is 15 years since I opened Jelly Beans Montessori nursery in Hockley and it gives me great joy to be able to assist so many children in our community at such a tender age. I am married and have 3 daughters, my eldest works at Jelly Beans, my middle daughter is studying film at Cambridge School of Art and my youngest is about to start University. I look forward to supporting Plumberow in their quest “To make their best better" for every child and their families.

I retired from teaching September 2017 after 37 years. During my career I taught science at Greensward (from 1985 to 1998). I have supported a number of schools in challenging circumstances as a consultant. My last role before retirement was as Headteacher of a school for boys with complex social and emotional needs.

I have 2 children at Plumberow Primary Academy, one in year 2 and one in year 5. Currently I am on a career break from my finance and benefits management position. I am passionate about making Plumberow Primary Academy the best it can be and I will work with parents and the school to help drive the continual improvement needed to provide our children with the best chance of success. I feel the voice of the parents is so important in the running of our school and I will try my best to make a positive impact for all our children.
