Physical Education

Please see below for information on Physical Education at Newlands Academy

Our aim is to provide a balanced PE curriculum that caters for all abilities, interests and ages.

Key Stage 3 pupils will receive three PE lessons a week covering sports like Rugby, football, badminton, athletics and many more.

We are working closely with other AET Academies to exchange good practice and also provide opportunities for our students to play competitive matches and attend PE lessons at other establishments.

Students currently study full course GCSE PE as an option. We follow the AQA syllabus and the course is made up of 60% practical (4 sports) and 40% theory (exam). Current Year 11 is doing the short one year course whilst Year 10 are doing the full two year course.

The annual sports day last year was held at Dulwich College. The children loved the opportunity to compete in such a fantastic venue. We hope that we can return there again this year.

Newlands have taken pupils camping for the last 3 years for 3 days and 2 nights. The campsites were in East Sussex and Herefordshire.

This year we will be offering the Duke of Edinburgh Award to Year 9, 10 and 11. This will be a fantastic opportunity for pupils to gain this well recognized award. The award not only enriches their lives and experiences, but also looks great on their CV for future study and job opportunities
