Please see below for information on Humanities at Newlands Academy
The Newlands Academy Humanities department strives to bring history to life for the school’s student body. This is achieved by as much hands on learning as possible in lessons, and varied, relevant subject topics.
Subjects covered across KS3 include: the ancient world, medieval life, the plague, crime & punishment and Democracy.
The Humanities Department believes in involving as much kinaesthetic learning as possible, so students are encouraged to get out of their seats and learn in a variety of ways. This could be through contact of arts and crafts and the use of props and artefacts.
Subject specific trips and events are organised (such as our Medieval Day, trips to the Royal Courts of justice & parliament) to allow students to get out of the classroom and immerse themselves in the surroundings of the topics of study.
