At Newlands Academy we ensure that emotional support is available to our students at all times through our Learning and Behaviour support team. Their role is to support students throughout the day in a range of ways. They offer 1:1 mentoring and coaching sessions, and small group support. These sessions are both timetabled and ad hoc, responding to the needs of students as and when they arise. Support can take place in the classroom, in breakout spaces or in any of our wellbeing areas like the gym or sensory room. The team also work with students off site and after school.
Hello my name Ibrahim Kanu, is It is a pleasure to welcome you to Newlands Academy Behaviour team. My role as the behaviour mentor lead is to offer a safe and inspiring learning environment where our pupils feel listened to, valued and are provided with the necessary tools to grow and reach their full potential. We know that our pupils need to feel supported; to learn new things, to develop existing understanding, to explore and experience vocational opportunities and to grow aspirations that will see them achieve and be successful as adults. I specialise in supporting those hardest to reach and will work alongside their families and other providers to get the best possible outcomes.
I want nothing more than to help better every student experience and outcome at this school.
Hello my name is Michael kuku, I am a learning and behaviour mentor. I work directly (1 to 1) or in bigger groups with the students supporting them when necessary. My aim is to help the students overcome behavioral, social and emotional problems that are affecting their learning. I often use sports or physical activity as a method to break down communication issues and to help students release frustration and anger in a positive and appropriate manner.
