Food Technology

The Food Technology curriculum aims to enable pupils to acquire a range of food skills, increasing in complexity and accuracy, to cook a range of dishes, safely and hygienically, and to apply their knowledge of nutrition and food provenance. In addition, they will consider the factors that affect food choice, food availability and food waste. We want pupils to have a deeper understanding of artistic styles and culinary techniques so they have the ability to innovate and to make effective personal responses needed in GCSE, A-Level or and beyond.

In Food Technology there is a focus on The Eatwell Guide, dietary needs through life and diet related health issues. In addition, pupils will consider consumer issues, food and its functions and new trends in food. Fundamentally, we want all pupils – whether they continue to study Art or Food Technology in KS4, or not – to learn to truly ‘see’ the world around them – to give them the ‘gift’ that studying, enjoying and creating art uniquely bestows.
