What we’ve been doing during theTerm.
Newington Academy has a very popular and very busy Eco Club. The club has been involved in many aspects or recycling and eco-management within the school building and grounds.
This term we have renewed our Green Flag. The children and staff have worked very hard to ensure the school is up to date with its recycling, energy awareness and sustainability.
In October 2015 we were rewarded our first Green Flag!
This term we have completed a travel survey, we were amazed at how many children walk to school! Well done Newington.. Keep it up!
We made grass heads and have watched them grow over the last term. This week we also made a house for our grass head so we could take them home and look after them. They were easy to make and we enjoyed watching them grow and looking after them.
We used socks, sawdust and grass seeds. First we filled the sock with the saw dust and grass seed. Then once the sock had been tied we decorated it and added a face to it. Over the following weeks the grass started to grow.
This week the children wanted to feed the hedgehogs. We went into the garden and placed dog food (a hedgehog's favourite) within some of the houses.
We have entered a competition with Hayes Garden World. The children have been invited to design their own sunflower seed packet.
There are prizes to be won!
The competition closes on Friday 17th July and any entries can be collected from Miss Watkinson.
