Penguins - Y1
Welcome to Penguins!
Thank you for visiting our class page.
Meet the Penguins
Welcome to the ‘PENGUINS’ home page. Our class teacher is Miss Everard and our teaching assistants are Mrs Cooper and Mrs Robinson. You will see us on the playground every morning from 8.40am if you have any questions or messages.
Our P.E. days this term are Monday and Tuesday. It is, however, recommended that pupils keep their P.E kit in school at all times as we often have extra P.E. sessions such as Freddy Fit.
We will listen to children read every day so please ensure that your child's book bag and home reading book are brought to school every day. Please sign and date if you have heard your child read at home to enable us to change their book when they need to. Reading records will be checked and books changed on a weekly basis.
Homework will be handed out on termly. You will be given five challenges to choose from during our current topic. You can also help your child by reading daily and signing your child's home - school reading record and practicing times tables and weekly spellings.
In Penguins our topic this term is 'Me, Myself and I.'
In this topic we will be learning how we change and grow as we get older, how to keep ourselves healthy and about each of our senses. We will complete lots of investigations into our bodies to develop our scientific thinking. For example, if you have the biggest feet are you the tallest? If you are the youngest person are you the smallest child? Do children with blond hair always have blue eyes? Ask your child what they have found out. We will also look at the changes that have impacted on our lives in recent decades, concentrating on how toys have changed for children.
Finally, we will design and make our own healthy sandwich ensuring that it has ingredients from each of the food groups.
Please keep an eye out for our class twitter feed and and don't forget we will be sharing all of our Wow! moments with you via Marvelous Me. Please send us a high five if you like what we are doing.
