Performance

Drama and Music are popular subjects within the Academy. In Years 7 and 8 students receive two lesson of Drama and two lessons of Music every fortnight and Dance is taught through PE lessons. Within the lessons the origins of the subjects are explained with an overall focus on encouraging students to be confident, assertive and self-expressive.

Out of the classroom students have the opportunity to join extracurricular clubs. Drama Club is held Wednesday, after school along with various Music clubs every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. ‘Evolve’ Dance Club is offered after school Tuesday. The Academy hold a showcase each term comprising of Drama, Music and Dance performances.

EVOLVE YOUTH DANCE COMPANY

Witham based , award -winning youth dance company , Evolve was founded in 2006 by professional dance artist and teacher Lisa Warnock.

Based at the AET Witham Academies, Evolve gives young people from the area access to dance tuition of the highest standard alongside access to fantastic dance opportunities and performance projects . Credits include: Rock Challenge, National Youth Dance Festival , work with professional dance companies and high profile Charity events locally in London and across the country .

Drama is taught throughout KS3. The emphasis is on developing students' communication and teamwork skills. The drama programmes of study are carefully designed to build students' confidence and develop their voice and movement skills. Students are also introduced to a range of dramatic genres and an awareness of the cultural place of Drama within our society.

Examples of topics studied include Storytelling, Greek Theatre, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and Peer Pressure.

In Years 9 and 10 students are studying the BTEC Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts

In Year 11 students are studying AQA GCSE Drama

In year s 12 and 13 we offer the Level 3 BTEC Performing Arts Subsidiary Diploma which is the equivalent of one A level and provides students with a practically based opportunity to explore a wide range of dramatic performance styles.

Extra curricular Activities in Drama

KS3 Drama Club is run by Mrs Farndon every Wednesday from 3.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. We focus on preparing performances for our termly Showcase performances. All students are welcome.
