Vision, Curriculum, Homework & Examinations

Vision

Kingswood Academy’s Drama department is a vibrant and energetic department which develops both a creative and disciplined approach to the study of Drama and Theatre.

Students will explore a range of skills and topics, through a combination of practical and written activities, which will ensure students grow in confidence, enhance their social skills, improve teamwork and help them to thrive both in school and in the world beyond.

Drama Curriculum

KS3

KS3 students learn about a variety of topics, styles and genres, such as Shakespeare, script work, Improvisation and Physical Theatre.

During their programme of study, they explore the key elements of Drama and how to communicate through performance, as well as how to analyse and evaluate Drama performances.

Students will work both collaboratively and independently, building confidence and social skills.

KS4

Students will follow the BTEC Level 1-2 Tech Award in Performing Arts.

This includes exploring the following learning aims;

  • Examine professional practitioners’ performance work
  • Developing skills and techniques of performance
  • Applying skills and techniques to a rehearsal process
  • Reviewing personal performances
  • Evaluating the developmental process
  • Understanding how to respond to a brief.

How do we assess students in Drama?

KS3

Marking is predominantly live, in which students are encouraged to respond to feedback from the teacher and their peers in order to progress through the learning aims for each learning cycle.

KS4

Students are marked in accordance to the Tech award specification, including both written coursework elements and practical performances.

Components 1 and 2 will be internally assessed. Component 3 is the externally assessed module.
