Kingsley Academy GCSE Results

42% secure a Grade 9 – 4 in Maths and English

Students at Kingsley Academy are today celebrating their Maths and English combined GCSE results of 42% at Grades 9 - 4. Part of Academies Enterprise Trust, the academy has performed well under the new, tougher GCSE exams that have been introduced over the last couple of years.

The Academy has seen some strong improvements over the last year:

  • English at grades 9 – 5: up by 2 points to 38%
  • Maths at grades 9 – 4: up by 2 points to 53%

2019 saw the introduction of the new exams in virtually all GCSE subjects. A new grading system is in place, with 9 – 1 grades replacing the old A* - G. Under the new system a Grade 7 equates to an A and a 4 is equivalent to the old C grade. The new grade 9 was designed to challenge and reward the very brightest and best students across the country.

Kingsley also performed well in last week’s A Level results with 58% of A Level entries securing A* - C and an Average Point Score of 27.8 points. 23% of grades this year were at the top A* - B.

Elroy Cahill, Headteacher of Kingsley Academy, who joined the academy in March 2019 said:

“The GCSE results at Kingsley Academy have seen a steady performance with a number of students achieving strongly. In particular we had some great individual successes including Neeman Mangal who secured six Grade 9s including in English and Maths and two Grade 8s. The results represent a solid base upon which to secure further improvements next year and to allow our young people to go on to lead remarkable lives.”

Schools Minister Lord Agnew said:

“Congratulations to all the pupils and staff at Kingsley Academy, and the wider team at AET, on reaching the culmination of much hard work. GCSE results day marks the moment so many young people will make choices that can shape the rest of their lives, so whatever path they choose, every pupil at Kingsley should do so full of confidence.”

Julian Drinkall, CEO of AET said:

“Our congratulations go out to all students and staff at Kingsley Academy – it’s still early days for the new exam system, but we are very proud of how well students have done, and their hard work and focus over the last two years have clearly paid off. Particular congratulations to Neeman for such a brilliant set of results.

“At AET, we are wholly focused on ensuring that the education our academies provide helps young people go on to lead remarkable lives. That is fast becoming a reality at Kingsley Academy and we wish all of our students the very best for the next step they take on that journey, whether it is further study or going into training or employment.

“The last three years has seen far-reaching changes at AET. Bar our name above the door, everything has changed – from the type of support we provide to each academy through to our governance. Everything is now geared towards the central goal of “remarkable lives” and it is wonderful to see the impact of those changes now coming through in each of our academies. The future is looking very positive, and my congratulations to everyone who is celebrating these results today.”

David Hatchett, AET’s National Director of Secondary Schools said:

“Congratulations to students at Kingsley on these GCSE results today and post-16 results last week. I pay tribute to the staff and leaders at the Academy for supporting the students to achieve these outcomes and for inspiring them to go on to lead remarkable lives.”
