We offer a wide range of experiences at Hall Road Academy, we plan and design our curriculum to allow time for children to think, discuss, practise and explore but most importantly embed. Our curriculum design allows for teaching, practise and repetition.
The curriculum is divided into the core curriculum : Maths, Literacy and Science and the foundation curriculum consisting of all other subjects. We strive to give children an enriched but balanced experience. Maths and Literacy are taught during the morning sessions and afternoons are devoted to developing our children’s wider and richer knowledge. The foundation curriculum is based on topics. Each phase of the school plans a topic around a theme which the children will enjoy and be motivated by. All themes are planned to enable our children to succeed but most importantly allow them to develop a richer breadth of knowledge.
Learning from experience
We believe that a happy child is a successful one, so the curriculum is shaped jointly by staff and learners to meet individual needs with a value placed on learning from experience. We plan our lessons so that our children are given breadth, balance and depth.
Learning for all - keep up not catch up
We know that children learn in many different ways and when planning our lessons, we take into account differing learning styles and varied starting points. We understand our context and the barriers to learning, we are clear on our mission; all our children keep up not catch up.
The National Curriculum
Children in years 1-6 are taught the National Curriculum subject which are:
