'Fluency with the Unfamiliar'

In Maths, we work closely with our Academy Trust who have developed a 4 part model which builds confidence and enable children to master a concept in 4 stages. We aim to broaden knowledge and ensure children have an in-depth understanding which enables them to communicate effectively and apply their skill to the real world.

The 4 Part Model

Representing (showing) – We use concrete materials/ apparatus to model and explore the concept.

Fluency (do) – At this stage we do lots of activities that help the children practice the concept until they fully understand it.

Probing Questions (thinking) – This is the stage where the children have to think about the answer and explain what they have done.

Rich and Complex Tasks (Solving) – At this stage children apply their knowledge to problems and use their understanding to work out the answers to complex problems.

We use Times Tables Rockstars across the school to improve our accuracy and speed.
