6th Form Life
Our sixth form students are encouraged to develop their personal, social and employability skills through a range of initiatives available within our Academy.
All students participate in external work experience as well as voluntary work within the Academy, with a range of opportunities available such as academic mentoring of our Y11 students, pastoral support of KS3 and in-class responsibility as teaching assistants within their key subject areas. In addition there are a host of charity events throughout the year to which students are encouraged to lend their support, as well as school events such as parents’ evenings, open evenings and community events where they can hone their communication and presentation skills.
All sixth form students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as Heads of House within our house system and to engage with external providers to ensure they are prepared for the wider world of work upon graduating Greenwood Academy Sixth Form. We have forged strong links with universities and businesses across the country and are particularly proud to enter our fourth year of working in partnership with Pinsent Mason’s law firm, who provide a bespoke mentoring programme to our students.
This year, we also welcome Alex Gardner who joins us from UCB as part of the Aim Higher programme and who will be working with students to support with their post 18 higher education and employment aspirations.
As part of our commitment to providing creative opportunities, sixth form have a high profile within our annual production, for which a number have won recognition for their performances at local awards ceremonies. Furthermore, in order to ensure our students remain healthy and active in body as well as mind, sixth formers enjoy access to timetabled periods of Physical Education each week allowing them an active break from their focussed study sessions.
