Supporting pupils with SEMH and Behavioural Needs

Positive Social, Emotional and Mental Health is just as important as having good physical health.

All children struggle to regulate or express their emotions at a young age. This is an expected part of a child's development.

However, sometimes children need additional help to develop the skills that they need to interact with other children. This can lead to frustration for the child as they struggle to communicate their feelings and to adjust to uncomfortable situations of routines.

We describe this as an SEMH or Behavioural Need. SEMH needs can include children who appear isolated, withdrawn or those who present with more challenging behaviour or ADHD.
